I am just wondering why you are using pin 7 as datapin on the 2 inputs? Is that what the oneremote radio is using?

Yes exactly that. The OneRemote radio usually connects to a Beomaster input such as TAPE using pin 7 for datalink. To use it with an AAL input (either BL1611 or a Beomaster TV/AUX) you put it in a special mode and OneRemote sell an adaptor to move data from pin 7 to 6.

Oh yes that was the function of the ASNUT adapter from Oneremote that was discussed in the beginning of this thread.

To make your adapter/Switchbox really universal you could make data connections to both pin 6 and 7 at the input end.
Of course you might need another box of chocolates to prepare you for the extra soldering ?

I might add something like that in the future, probably for testing different combinations rather than permanent use. Pin 6 would have to be switchable because I don’t want to risk a ‘grounded’ pin 6 input cancelling a connected pin 7.

On a related subject, I do want to do some further experiments with the BL Active’s PC input at some stage. I know audio L & R go to PC pins 2 & 4 but I wondered about pins 6 and 8 and whether they could be used for datalink (or AAL) control of a local source. PC input pins as listed in this thread: https://archivedforum.beoworld.co.uk/forums/p/15997/281594.aspx

According to Keiths post here https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/forums/topic/beolink-active-1636-pc-input/#post-14712 those are Masterlink data. More so I can confirm that as I have done some continuity measurements at one point where I found that there is a direct connection between the data pins in the PC 8 pin DIN connector and the data pins in the Masterlink connector. I will do an update of that other thread with this observation as I for some reason never got around to do that.

However I have also been thinking what could be don with that port, and maybe some kind of adapter to take the sound from the PC DIN and if usefull the data from a Powerlink connector as they sometimes use the same datalines as MCL/AAL connections.

Might get arround to do some more digging into that subject in that other thread

And of course we still don’t have the service manual for the Beolink Active 1636

To sum up some of the findings in this thread and to make it easier for newcomers and others to understand what it is we have been testing and found out I have compiled a set of examples of use cases for the Beolink converters and the MCL2AV box.

This is not a complete set of examples, and some things can be mixed and matched between the different setups although there are limitations.

I Have tried to describe each use case in words, but also (hopefully) made as much as possible self explanatory with the example drawings.

I am no graphics shark, and do not have any fancy graphics tools, so bear with the limitations in the graphical presentation. Also I would have liked to have more consistency in the icons used, but I have used what I could find.

Any constructive critics, suggestions for changes and/or attention on wrong information is very welcome, and I will try to update the example accordingly.

Because of file size the attached files will be in this and the following post

Excellent work – you must have kept comprehensive notes from all the testing that you have been doing, and it’s great to see it presented so clearly!

In the New Year I will have a more comprehensive look through all the combinations, but I really should prioritise looking for a new house to buy so I can settle down and use some of these setups for real.

Many thanks indeed for putting these together for the benefit of all!

Actually my notes was mostly the thread and in my head. Although I had to do some retesting when I began making the drawings as some questions regarding specific option settings and details like that arrised.

Hope you do find a place with lots of extra rooms to enjoy your collection of B&O gear. You may need a seperate room just for your Beolink 1000 and BEO4 collection ?

No problem. Been meaning to do that for a while now. Also makes it easier to explain these unofficial setups to others

Joke aside, one thing we haven’t discussed about the use of the 1611 in this thread is how it could be used with a Beosound with Masterlink. It would probably give an extra aux input with a video command. But could it also give an extra sound input, or will the Beosound just open it’s integrated aux input regardless of audio command that is not integrated for example N.music?

Yes that would be a useful experiment, especially for one of the many BeoSounds with only one AUX socket (eg Ouverture), or with no datalink (eg BS9000 or BS3000/3200).

BS9000 has no datalink on the aux connector. But the powerlink connector has data (DL86?) on pin 6.

                          What do you think ?

I am not sure the data connection i the Powerlink connectors will be of much use depending on the goal.

If it is just to get an extra AUX input without datalink Usecase 6 above https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Beolik-Converter-Usecases-6.pdf can be used.

If it is to be able to control a B&O record player or tape deck it may require to set the BS9000 in opt. 5 or 6 (as a link room) and via Masterlink connect to a Beolink converter 1611 and the via datalink to a Beomaster 3500/4500/5500/6500/7000 or a MCL2AV (in option 0 or with the IR eye covered) where the record player and/or tape deck is connected. It should then be possible to use theses source with a LINK + PHONO/TAPE command from the BS9000

                              Hi

Your examples are great – really helpful – thank you.

Your 8th .pdf shows a Beomaster 4500 in a link room connected with a special aux cable – I assume this works as a slave unit only.

Would this setup work with any other audio products that would normally be an audio master, eg Beocenter 9500?

                              Thanks

                              Alan

As far as I can tell it should work with other Audio master also. However there might be limitations since B&O never made it official. Note that it will only work with an older software revision on the Beomaster 4500.

In this other thread https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/forums/topic/beosystem-4500-option-settings/#post-24550 I have tested it with a direct connection to a Beocenter 9300 with the crossed cable.

Sorry – I might not have been clear on my earlier post. I wonder the a Beoceter 9500 could be used as the slave unit instead of the Beomaster 4500?

No unfortunately not. The first software versions of the Beomaster 4500 is the only units I know that are able to get the right option settings to works as a slave unit.

Did somebody test 1611 with a beomaster 5 to get AUX-in? I`d like to connect a beogram 5500.

Is Datalink to control beogram also supported?

The Beomaster 5 I have is dead, so haven’t been able to test this scenario. However I can’t see no reason it shouldn’t work as it would be the same as having the Beomaster 5 and an other Beomaster/Beosound/Beocenter in the same masterlink network.

Is Datalink to control beogram also supported?

To control a Beogram you would also need a MCL2AV. The setup would be much like usecase 5 from my earlier post https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Beolik-Converter-Usecases-5.pdf

Not sure how the option settings on the Beomsater 5 should be as I have yet to use one.

Note that if a MCL2AV is used the Beogram is connected to the CD connection and controlled with the CD command. That is however a good thing as the phono command is the same as N.MUSIC and would introduce a conflict.

will try to get a 1611 and MCL 2AV. Interestingly in this thread

it is mentioned that the version number of the 1611 matters…..

None of my 1611 converters has that long type number, but have proven to work for several configurations from this and other threads.

I think the important thing is you do not get a type 1614 converter as it can not act as an audio master.

Both my 1611 converter has SW 1.3, and I have yet to see one with an other software version
