Here is a summary of my setup:
Thanks Mr 10% and MM,
Mr 10%, thank you again for your detailed procedure.
MM, you are right about the coax output of the Beocenter 2, that’s why I keep the Core.
Yann.
Thanks Mr 10%!
You detected a Typo, as I do not have a BS 2, but a Beocenter 2 and I wish to use the coax-out of the Beocenter to play CDs on the BL50.
Second, my setup is more complicated than stated, as it include 1984 to current Audio and Video products, spread in different rooms.
The Tape-out of the BC2 connected to the Line-In of the Core enables me to play analog sources as Radio and Phono.
I also wish to use the Core as you do with your Auralic since the Theater’s multimedia player does not meet my needs and the Core keeps B&O integration (despite of it’s performance limitations).
I hope these explanations will clarify my questions.
Kind regards,
Yann.
I have the 90s. Previous to that the BL5s. the 90 and the 50s have settings in the BeoApp which enable threshold trigger on/off and source priority. I use the BL90s with a Beovision (Beosound Theatre) via DPL and Auralic DAC/Streamer (XLR). The triggers are set for priority XLR, the DPL (set your most used source last). The BL90s trigger on XLR signal and (IIRC, 30sec after no signal trigger off). Via DPL, it’s all controlled by the Beovision. but I’ve never tried that.
Hi,
I just recieved my BL50 + Theatre replacing my BL5 + Eclipse. My plan was to connect:
- Theatre to BL50 (and 8000 as surround) with Powerlink,
- Core to BL50 with Optical,
- BC2 coaxial output to BL50 with SP/DIF.
Unfortunately, the dealer did not succeed to set the PWL way, as the Theater detection process always failed to find one speaker (either 50s or 8000s).
So he used WISA for the 50s.
The problem is that WISA prevents the physical input to be automatically detected and the BL do not turn-on when using Core /BS2 sources.
So I have to go in the 50s settings to stop WISA, start the source and hope that the 50s will turn-on. Quite uncomfortable!!!
So I have some questions:
- how to proceed to get the 4 PWL speakers detected?
- I noticed that Mr 10% used DPL to connect Theater and BL90s. Is it possible to do that on the 50s and is there any delay with surround speakers?
- What would be the best priority list for the 50s?
Thanks to any help!
Kind regards,
Yann.
I can’t understand why they rushed to release this beta as the source selector is missing.
Hi Mbee,
A VERY discrete down arrow source selector is hidden on the top line of the player’s screen, either on the Music or Radio screen.
In my case on BS1 and Core I just find “line-in”, no more bluetooth and ML sources previously available from BL/NL converter.
I agree with you, it’s a very annoying regression.
@ Sandyb, same list on my Theater.
Yann.
Thank you, Yann. It is that connection but it also has a USB connector. Can I use that as well?
I did not mention USB because, as Trackbeo stated, USB is meant for connexion to a PC in order to digitize LPs.
The best (and economical) solution is the analog way.
According to the switch position, you can connect the Dual to the phono input (Phono position) or Aux / Tape 2 inputs (Line position).
Yann.
Hi,
If your Turntable is this one :
https://www.testberichte.de/imgs/p_imgs_supersize/1775657.jpg
you need a RCA to DIN adapter like this
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41eEBtcuxXL.jpg
to connect the Dual to the Phono input of the Beocenter.
My guess is that the Turntable’s switch should be placed on the Phono setting. (check on the user guide).
If you are seeking high quality cables, I recommand Sound Heavenly, who sponsors this site.
Yann.
Great idea !
Hi Steve,
Great to hear that things are getting better for you.
And happy that you can ship overseas again.
Kind regards,
Yann.
Great!
August 25, 2023 at 3:49 pm in reply to: Question: BeoLab 50 external source: DAC or no DAC? (Geoff?) #23363Hi Geoff,
Thanks for your explanations.
I may have been unclear in my post, so here are some more details:
1: In my mind, best quality is seen on the technical side and means to minimize conversions/filterings made on the signal path and have the necessary ones done by the most efficient product of the setup (BL50).
2: My project is to have a sort of 2 in one system: one for TV and casual listening through the Theatre/BL50 combination and one for “active listening” using the best quality defined hereunder.
3: Music files are stored in a QNAP NAS connected to a router dedicated to A/V (as recommended by B&O when I bought a Moment) with Core, Eclipse, NL/ML converter, all wired.
In the 4 options you mentioned, the second seems to be the most adapted but unfortunately the Core is limited to the 24/96 bitrate, when BL50 supports 24/192.
I agree, this is a personal “snakeoil” approach but I like to use the maximum of what a product can offer.
I totally agree with you when it comes to wired connections vs Wifi. I plan to connect the master BL50 through Ethernet and use DPL to link master to slave.
Kind regards,
Yann.
August 24, 2023 at 10:48 am in reply to: Question: BeoLab 50 external source: DAC or no DAC? (Geoff?) #23297Hello Geoff,
Thanks for your explanations.
I’m waiting for delivery of Theatre and BL50 to replace my Eclipse + BL.
My setup also include a BS Core and a NL/ML converter connected to ML products.
I’m wondering what would be the way to connect the products in order to have the best quality when listening to music.
May you give me your advice on the alternatives shown below:
1 – Core to BL 50 via optical (Limited to 24/96 birate)
2 – Core to BL50 via Digital Power Link hoping it can support 24/192 bitrate (there is one DPL socket on the Core and 2 on the master BL50),
3 – NAS to BL50 via Ethernet.
A side question: What would be the best way for calibration: run BL50 first then Theater or run Theatre first then BL50?
Thanks and kind regards,
Yann
Hello,
I would connect products like this.
Yann.
Brilliant!
Thanks, Keith.
Hello,
Search for Toslink to mini toslink cable.
Kind regards,
Yann.
Hi Beoworlders,
Today was for me “a storm in a skull” as the decision had to be made.
Spent the afternoon comparing specifications, connections, possibilities.
Finally, I watched several very interesting videos from Geoff on B&O’s website…
And ordered BL50!
Thanks for your help and wise advices, I’ll keep you posted when my new setup will be delivered.
Kind regards,
Yann.
Sandyb and MM,
I will keep the 8000 as rear and the new speakers as front, it’s more convenient for music listening when sitting in the couch.
Yann.
Hi MM,
My idea is to keep the BL8000 as rear and put the new speakers as front.
The room is 30 square meters: 4,5 meters wide and 6,5 meters long.
TV and front speakers are alone on a narrow side and rear speakers at around 3,5 meters from the screen.
Yann.
Thanks to both of you.
I decided to change my setup because my BL5 fail on a regular 2 years basis.
One of them failed again and the electronics are gone on holidays in Denmark since March….
I’ve chosen fabric as my furniture is black lackered and wooden slats would break the harmony.
So for the time being and different reasons, 28 hold the match.
Let’s see the other Beoworlder’s arguments.
Regards,
Yann.
Hi,
According to B&O website, Contour is a stand-alone TV.
The Connectivity list does not mention Speaker outputs, nor Wisa.
IMHO this TV does not meet you wish.
Kind regards.
