Hi,
These are very different products. Beosystem 3 gives surround sound and picture processing, but with the TV picture limited to 1080p (Full HD). Connection Hub (also known as the S8 Hub) is a stereo audio processor that does not do any picture processing, this only works with a TV that has an infra red remote control.
The choice is yours, I can help with cables once you have made your decision.
Kind regards, Steve.
Thanks dariod,
Glad you found my videos! Beosound 5 (Beomaster or Encore versions) are not suitable for use with a TV, due to the audio delay inside the Beosound. Yes, you can connect all the speakers to a Core or Connection Hub, but you will only get stereo sound, not surround sound.
Sorry I can’t comment on third-party items you have found on eBay, these are not usually intended for use with Beolab speakers, Bluetooth devices for connections between fixed products are best avoided as they can give extremely poor sound and be very unreliable.
Please feel free to get in touch via my sponsor link below if you need any help with cables.
Kind regards, Steve.
Hi,
Yes, I can help! Basically, you have three options if you wish to use the speakers with a non-B&O TV:-
1) Connect two Beolab speakers to the headphone socket of the TV for stereo sound, with volume control from the TV remote, or
2) Connect the TV and all of the Beolab speakers to a Beosound music system, B&O Connection Hub or Core (if you have one) for stereo sound through all speakers, with volume control from the B&O remote, or
3) Add an external AV receiver with pre-out sockets (expect to pay from around £500 GBP in the UK) to allow all of the speakers to be connected for full surround sound with control from the receiver remote control.
I can (of course!) provide cables for any of the above options. If you can please let me know your preferred option, I will be pleased to advise on the cabling required.
kind regards, Steve from SoundsHeavenly.com
Hi jjcox,
Whilst the NL/ML Converter is an option, you can get great results with a £20 cable, without needing the £650 converter.
This cable will connect from one of the Powerlink outputs of the Beosound 3000 to the 3.5mm line input of your Core:-
Please set the Beosound volume to a high level (50-75%) to give you the full range of volume control from the B&O app.
Alternatively, you can link the Beosound 3000 to the RCA line inputs of the two speakers directly via this cable:-
(IMPORTANT NOTE: ONLY BEOLAB 5, 17, 18, 19, 20, 28, 50 AND 90 CAN ACCEPT INPUTS FROM MULTIPLE DEVICES AT THE SAME TIME, OTHER SPEAKERS CANNOT DO THIS!)
Kind regards, Steve.
Hi Mbee,
I agree you can’t beat Beolab 3 at this price! This video gives you a chance to hear them, I have also made a review of these great speakers on my YouTube channel:-
Kind regards, Steve.
Thanks Evan and MM,
Glad the video was helpful, I will certainly look to make more of these in the future.
The guys I spoke to at B&O referred to the 5 inch driver as a full range co-axial unit, they said it is the same as used in the earlier Beolit versions. I will have to open up my Beolit to check!
Each B&O speaker works differently, I don’t think the M3 has the capability to offer this type of processing. I will look to cover some of the other speakers in upcoming videos.
Please let me know if you have any specific topics that you would like me to cover in future videos!
Kind regards, Steve.
Hi,
Sorry I haven’t used any Almando products, so I can’t comment on these.
Kind regards, Steve.
Hi,
Sorry for replying in English.
If you connect a TV to Beomaster 5 via the USB adapter, there will be a delay to the audio from the TV, so that it will not match the picture (this delay occurs within the Beomaster 5 and it is a known issue with B&O). The simplest solution to this is to buy a Beolink Converter from Bang & Olufsen (type 1161166) and connect this to the Beomaster 5 with a Masterlink cable.
In the BS5 menu, there is an “AudioMaster” submenu that needs to be selected as ON. There is also another menu just below it called “AM”, please set this to AM: 2 or AM: 6.
There are several options for connecting your TV to the Aux socket of the Converter, depending on the connections fitted to your TV, I’ve listed these in order of preference:-
1) If your TV has red and white AUDIO OUT sockets on the back (with no yellow socket nearby), this will be the best way to send sound from the TV into your B&O audio system. These sockets may have a symbol showing an arrow pointing OUT of a diamond shape instead of the AUDIO OUT label. If so, you can use this cable to connect from the Tv to the B&O system:-
2) If the TV doesn’t have these sockets, but it has a spare SCART (21 pin) socket instead, then you can still use the cable above, but you will also need a SCART to RCA adapter, which can be selected from the options at the link below:-
https://soundsheavenly.com/tv-misc/57-scart-adapter-block-rca-s-video-gold-pins.html
Please note that the set of three (red/white/yellow) sockets, and the set of five (red/green/blue/red/white) sockets that are usually to be found on the side or rear panel or most new TVs are INPUTS to the TV, so these are not suitable for taking sound out to the B&O system.
3) If none of the above options are possible, you can use the headphone output into the B&O audio system with this cable instead:-
Please note that this will switch off the TV speakers and that you will need to set the TV volume quite high, typically 75% of maximum.
You can then listen to the TV through the Beomaster 5 without an audio delay by pressing “TV” on your B&O remote control.
Congratulations to all the lucky winners and thanks for supporting BeoWorld!
