They are at the lower end of what i expected price wise too.

But i guess once you include the mount price, and the absurd wood price (same as the Theatre wood?!) a pair of these will end up at close to 6K GBP, and 6.5k Euros.

Not that i need these myself, I’ll stick with my 17s as rear/surrounds.

the satellite speakers won’t be any less than 6k USD. My best guess is somewhere in the 6-8k range. They are supposed to be Beolabs after all.

18s went up a very small amount.

European prices are all quoted inclusive of sales tax.

Not sure about specific prediction from the company, more that by targeting the super wealthy they insure themselves somewhat against ups and downs of a global economy that is fragile, and likely to have semi frequent issues over the media term.

As a strategy it has some logic, and as I said above, it may well work out (to a greater extent), even though we may not like it.

Yes, you’ve summarised it pretty well (although doubling of margin is not quite their aim, as that would be unrealistic!).

But otherwise it can be summarised as this : the strategy has changed to target the VHNWI’s, as that is where they think the money is, especially for luxury brands with some halo desirability associated.

This has various implications, be it a comfort with high visibility collaborations, moving some previously standard colours into custom/bespoke, more flagship experience stores, true exclusive luxury pricing etc etc.

There’s also a geographical market focus shift involved too, with a downplaying of China as a growth opportunity, and a re-emphasis of North America.

Additionally, there is some implicit comfort in not trying to expand sales volumes, and an acceptance that selling less for more is not a bad result. It at least ensures that supply / production overhangs won’t occur if the economic environment has a down period.

Both here and on Discord there is much discomfort at this new strategy, though while I don’t like it at all for my tastes / wallet, I wouldn’t be so quick as others to dismiss it as doomed to fail. They’ve had some success in targeting the wealthier ends of London / Paris (which is having a mini boom) and spots in America.

They will certainly need to raise support levels to satisfy the ultra wealthy clients, who will be less tolerant that we are of software glitches.

But that caveat aside, there is non trivial chance that as a medium term survival strategy, it may work out.

allow me a pedantic, but I think non-trivial, correction.

They changed their description of target market segments from HNWI’s to Very HNWI’s.

In that context, the recent adding of 2000 GBP/EURO to the base price of a Theatre makes sense.

                  Absent that context, it doesn’t.

I have my setup as a dual purpose, in a similar way that you are looking at.

For TV, my BL50s (and surround BL17s) are connected to my TV (Theatre) with power link cables.

For music, I have a 3rd party streamer / DAC connected to my 50s via analogue RCA cables. (The streamer/DAC also picks up/integrates my local music library, on top of Qobuz)

As a dual purpose system, it works perfectly.

If you dont want to introduce a streamer/DAC, then you’ll easily find a streamer alone that will combine streaming services and your local library, and is capable of more than 24/96. Whether you need more than 24/96 is your choice of course, and what music UI you want is again personal. But if a Core doesn’t tick your boxes, there are plenty of 3rd party units that will do what you want.

Hi there Morten, there is not much I can add but yes.

This issue, which some users had early on, seems to have returned somehow.

I have 2 rooms with Theatres, and both are doing it now.

I would tentatively suggest it happens more with PUC controlled sources, though I cant swear that it’s only those sources. But yes, at times if the BR1 is idle for a while, then the Theatre/BR1 are unresponsive to the next key press, and it can take a minute or two, and repeated key presses for communication to then re-establish itself. Once it does, everything is ok again.

And just to reiterate, its now happening on both of my Theatres, both on latest 2.5.5

yes, has started to happen to my living room Theatre setup.

If the remote is idle for a while, it can take a minute or so for communication to return back to normal.

I’ve kind of given up logging issues with online support, as the service is frustrating and not good.

The retailer screenshots I have seen show this : (UK price changes0

                            Theatre – 5990 GBP to 7990

                            H95 – 780 up to 880

                            BR1 – 300 up to 400.

One screenshot says average price increase on the portfolio of 24-30%.

Hard to interpret exactly how they have calculated this figure to be honest.

The 90s are going from 110k euro to 125k euro.

Does seem like an across the board change, of varying %’ages.

speaking of price increases, one of the UK B&O retailers has emailed out some of the new prices.

Looks broad, i.e.plenty of products affected, perhaps the whole portfolio subject to “24 to 30%” increase.

The UK Theatre price is up 33% – 7990GBP from 5990GBP.

I wish them the best of luck.

                                thats what I thought.

theatre + 28s up front (and 8000s rears) should set you up well for years.

my living room is 5.5m by 5m – modest but not huge. I have 50s, but at times with action movies, its almost too much.

not clear that the OP does just want 2 speakers

rears are 8000’s he says – assuming those are staying.

anyway, we can await his thoughts

I moved from 18s (up front) to 50s, but that was primarily for music reasons, as the 18s never really did it for me music wise.

But in your case, I’m pretty sure 28s are more than adequate, in fact they’d be very good for both films and music.

As for only having a Theatre up front, and using 18s/28s/8000s (whichever) as rears (the Theatre triangle, if you will), while its a feasible option (vs previous BVs) because the Theatre as centre unit can create a wider soundstage on its own than an Eclipse for example, that width only goes so far.

In the store I listened to the triangle (no fronts) and then the triangle with added 18s front L/R – and having dedicated fronts was a good deal better.

if those are your use cases, surely get the Balances with that good offer, for music. And an LG + Stage for tv.

The Theatre is decent enough for music, but for those music listeners used to separation, it’s not likely to be good enough. The Balance pair / 18s pair though, should be good enough.

dont think a pair of Balances will work for TV watching I’m afraid.

There ay be a way of connecting them using their line-in inputs – but the recent Beosound (Theatre aside) products have had non-adjustable (and long) input delays, which means that voice and image will have horrible lip-sync issues.

My dealer (when I bought 17s for use with. my Theatre) brought his laptop, connected with cable to the 17s, and did it from there (service tool I guess).

Willie on the podcast says that it fact it needs to be done via a Transmitter 1 I think, to get the “latest” software.

Mine were done via laptop, and have been fine with the Theatre (contrary to my prior fears!)

also, bear in mind that the theatre price is going up 20% (yes 20!) on august 15th.

sounds like you’ll be ahead of that obviously, but just worth mentioning.
