My experience on BL5s (2003 to 2016 – mk1s IIRC), was I went through an upper tweeter on one speaker. Needed to replace both to keep the same/equal performance. £150 each including fitting in 2014.

Yes, understand your points. I never got to hear the older “Beovox box” speakers and remember somewhat lusting after a pair of Redlines in my early teens. I think the reality is somewhat in between? The older loudspeakers had a limited amount of acoustic design – as did the tape, tuner and decks of the time. With computerised acoustic and electronic design, this will have been “improved upon” technically (but not necessarily “sound better” to many ears).
The BL8000 and 6000 were point in case; Loudspeakers could be made small, compact, powerful and WAF/decor-friendly. They were compromised in many ways too, with reduced bass and possibly weak imaging etc… My point is that the latter-day loudspeakers tend to correct all these design deficiencies – but and a big but(t), they are large machines compared to their 1970-1990 counterparts?

For Sure we are all entitled to listen to what we want and like and opinion was offered by me on a point of view.A few of extra points from my perspective.
1. I list3n to an occasion LP on a fully refurbished BG8002/MMC2. The sound to be frank is average to my ears but watching the BG play (or just sit there) is art.2. When I purchased either my BL5s and latterly the BL90s, I found a number of interesting things in my music; a) a whole range of hidden sounds, textures and imagaging were hidden in my FLAC recording we’re suddenly revealed and b) half the recordings are really very poorly mastered (predominately poor imaging I would say i.e unrealistic sound)
3. B&O have never made a decent digital Beosound to keep up with the BL90s. Especially the players included in the modern OLED Beovisions. The BS5 I had for many years was OK with the BL5s but junk with the 90s. I spent quite a bit on a 3rd party audio system of big boxes. This has made my remaking good recordings in 2a above somewhat better and the bad recordings in 2b a lot worse.
4. I’m not a big proponent of list3ning to streamed music, preferring listening to my own cd rips. So can’t commen5 on Deezer and Spotify.5. I thing the Balance could become an exceptional Beolab as opposed to a Beosound. I miffs me what B&O never put that feature in – just like the phono plugs of old. An insert kills the Beosound function and makes the unit a Beolab slave??In the last 35years keeping B&O solvent, I’ve owned a wide-spread of music machines.
BL6000, BL4000, BL2, BL3, BL4, BL5, BL90 as well as countless Beoplay and integrated music boxes.
My view is that the latter-day products are way way more tonally balanced and powerful than earlier non-ICE loudspeakers. The BL5 was clearly the first of these products on a new playing level and I never found the treble a problem. In retrospect, the BL5 had a bass problem which is clearly revealed when compared to the BL50 or 90. However, in isolation – what a speaker!
The only loudspeaker I ever heard which was a problem for me was the BL1. It was shrill to my ears.
As matters currently stand, I wait in anticipation for the Beosound Balance to be RJ45’d so they can be paired either to a BV or to my Auralic DAC. I think the Balance would run rings around the BL3. But I guess that is a kind of progress?

Its difficult for me to advise correctly as I dont run ant Beo4 comparable equipment anymore – especially with the BR1.
However, try:-
List>>Setting>>Advance>>Products>>Beo4 Video or Beo4 Audio.
Then use your mybuttons to quickly lock your mode??

sounds like you have switched out of Beo4/IR mode in the “products” and moved back into BT mode.
I have never heard the BL12-2 but have plenty of BL3s.
I would state the BL3s are 2003-5 tech, the 12s a little later. However, it is likely they are just different form factors of the same/similar thing. Although good, I think todays modern Labs will probably blow them away. The BL11 will however lift both speakers in terms of tonal response.
I think the question to ask is what are your labs used for (primary music, surround etc..) and how do they fit with your living and decor?
Small hint to all installers: If you have a network problem check the network cable, which is delivered with your BS Theatre. Mine was faulty … My dealer had to send it in to the headquarters.
IIRC, installing my Eclipse in 2018, I had exactly the same problem with the hidden connector between the soundbar and the panel. This resulted in having to disassemble everything to re-fit. I wonder where B&O source this rubbish from?

obviously a service manual is required if there is one but looking at the battery side, there are 4 x 3mm holes next to the locking lugs. When I look down these holes with a loupe there appears to be a ball bearing at the bottom of each and an off centre plate thing. I guess near to the underside of the touch pad?
I wonder If the volume ring is locked in position with a spring clamp/bearing arrangement and is released in a similar way to early 1990 car stereos – I.e with 2 U-shaped coat hanger wire (but thinner of course) which are pulled apart in pairs to release the clamping spring?
it may be that the Essence remote was never designed for service and a new module was matched to the expensive base?

The one thing I would say is that we know they are working on allowing / making possible other standalone products as surround sound speakers i.e. with a Theatre. As part of this. sync issues must be sorted by necessity. What we dont know is whether older products (on the ASE platform – like BS1 / 2, A9, M3 etc etc) will gain this ability / benefit or whether its just the newer Mozart enabled speakers (Level, Balance etc). I wouldn’t expect anything on this front for 9 months though.
Yes, there are different levels of integration and sync.
- Those associated directly with the Theatre and surround sound distribution which can be wired, WISA or potentially (future) Mozart. This has to be perfect to be rolled-out by B&O. I hear it is coming – as is a RJ45 BS Balance.
- Those older products which are dotted around the house and not associated with the surround sound. I believe both old and new products around the house can pick-up on TV audio NOW via the BeoApp but there will be an environmental delay based on distance.
I would assume that in a open room living-room/kitchen with the Theatre, Mum listening to TV on a BS1 in the kitchen (why would she?), dad in the office to the side of the kitchen listening to TV with an Essence and little Johnny upstairs on the upstairs Landing reading a book with a BS2, could not reasonably listen to the TV audio with ALL products in sync.
The environmental (distance, walls) delays would be too much unless each individual product plays their part in timing and each have a coordinated clock internally.
That’s a shame. I’m eager to upgrade to an OLED TV but I’m not sure if I’m willing to do it at the expense of that feature. If I am I might as well look at some of the other brands, such as Sony or Samsung which have just brought out their new Quantum Dot OLED TVs. If B&O really wanted to make it work properly they could. All they have to do is delay the audio that’s sent to the TVs speaker so that it’s in sync with the other speakers, and delay the video so that it’s in sync with the audio. I’d be surprised if we were talking more than 100 milliseconds in total. I mean TVs already have the ability to delay the video they show so that external speakers are in sync. I wonder what their excuse is. Never heard of Speaker Link but I will keep an eye out for it. Hopefully they will add it to older products (like my BS1 and BS2) via a software update so they can play in sync with the new TVs. One thing I have learned over the years is that B&O cannot be trusted with software, so I’m reluctant to buy anything new until the software has actually been released and is working reliably (ha!).

The BS Theatre can use any TV monitor but believe the LG C2 and G2 integrate with the BeoApp fully. Other panels for now – less so.
In terms of audio sync, that is what the Theatre is supposed to do with its processor. Atmos and all that.
If you are looking to broadcast TV Audio around the house, I guess it depends on how well insulated your rooms are? If the Theatre is in an open plan living room/kitchen and you want to broadcast TV in the living room and have a say a BS1 in the kitchen (same room), well yes, its always going to be disappointing because of the voicing and the near impossibility of matching inherent and environmental delay. If you are going to listen to the TV like I do with an office downstairs (remote distance from the TV)..is it really going to be that bad?
I was never given an option when ordering. I’m sure for now that’s it. The stand is flippable so you can have off-wall or near-wall placement
My Gen3 H9’s charge via a standard Apple white plug with a USB-A to USB-C cable without issue (UGreen).
What you may also have to check is that a) not all USB-C cables are equal and have same charge carrying capacity and from that b) not all USB-C cables are the same USB standard. In fact, it is a huge mess of non-standards.
Im not sure what you are having a problem with Qi-chargers, cables or the power supply to these??
I did not know the BS-A1 could be wirelessly charged?
That aside, I think the devil may be in the detail: I notice that some of my USB-C power distributors cannot perfectly charge my laptop like say the Levono OEM charger. Even if it is rated at 65 or 100W output. It can charge – but the Laptop Bios recognises it as non-OEM. Also, lesser non-OEM USB-C chargers can burn themselves out quickly compared to the OEM spec.
So yes, it can work and I’d be tempted to try it but the longevity may be shorter than expected. This
looks very similar to the B&O charger (fit and finish on the outside is obviously different) but would I try and charge say a Halo with the Amazon or with the B&O version. I’d go for 7 Amazon ones every time.
From what I remember hearing at my stand-alone Theatre demo is that it had plenty of bass for LFE. I would be surprised if the BL2 (aka not the quickest sub in the world) would really be a positive contributor to your eventual setup?
Not sure if that frees up another speaker port or not…but something to experiment with.
My guess from the last few posts and other sources….is its sounding very much like the BS Theatre (or its control app) is another unfinished product.
I’ve got a feeling were going through the Bl90/BL50/BS Moment/BV/etc…..product software beta testing and development all over again?
