I can easily reach (and play from) my Beosystem 7000/CD on my Essence in a linked room.
The setup is Beosystem 7000 -> Beolink/ML Converter -> NL/ML Converter -> into my NL products.
Why shouldn’t that be possible with the Sound Center……which is a NL product?
It is all about how the setup is configured!

Hallo Matthias

OliverC is right…that is the signal chain (which also includes a MCL to ML Converter in order to integrate the MCL Beomaster to the ML chain).
The Beolink Gateway (as well as the newer Beolink Intelligence) makes the voice controlling possible.
Means no magic……but clever programming combined with the linking possibilities built-in to the Bang & Olufsen products.
Something that you would want that more B&O dealers would/could showcase! In the cinema room they are using a Trinnov Altitude audio processor (unless they have changed that lately). This advanced processor – amongst a lot of other things – makes it possible to set up several different speaker groups like we also know it from the BSys4 respectively the Sound Center of the newer BV’s.
This way B&O can showcase different multichannel Beolab setups in the same room.
The Trinnov processor can also be integrated with the Beolink Gateway for creating different scenes (lightning, screen etc) as Steve told us in the video. All in all that room is a further development, a perfection of what a B&O setup has been able to since the days of the Beosystem 3/cinema options.
@Steve
Thanks for the video – I have been looking forward to it ?

Of course there is a DAC inside, but that is part of the signal processing, that is responsible for any signal going into the BL5’s.
Many people claim to hear a difference using the digital vs the analog input.
IMO it is hard to a/b testing, since you will have to have exact the same SPL for both.
Besides external DAC’s which are part of both solutions, are mostly (quite) different – using different filter settings etc.
You normaly do not know everything about each signal chain! In my view it will be impossible to compare ‘your DAC’ and the DAC solution in the 5’s!
So choose what you like best……..…or skip the hassle with using an external device, if you already now don’t notice a significant difference.
Enjoy the music.

As far as I remember the BM4400 has 5-pin input connections (one for Phono and two for Tape).
Basicly you can use any CD player – in some cases you’ll have to use an adapter (R/L to DIN).
If you want vintage B&O….go for a CDX/CDX2 – which one is better the vintage specialist here may tell you.
There you have options for controlling directly on the device.
MM
That is not going to be an easy task.
I’d lay it on the back with a lot of blankets/cushions to stabilize.
Or rather…..I’d go looking for someone with a bigger car so that it could stand upright.

Here is another one of my favourites.
Bear with me – much more time to listen for time being ?
The Mary Fahl album Live At The Mauch Chunk Opera House from 2014.
Since it is a live album, I let the TrueImage processor upmix to 5.1.
MM
The band Renaissance touring in 2014…..with Annie Haslam – and Mary Fahl (who had a new album out a couple of days ago) as guest.
MM
Thanks!
Obviously a work in progress.
We’ll see sometime in the fall……when they have sorted things out.
MM
MM
Ok – that explains it!
Would be nice if you could post a couple of pictures to show how it looks when you choose B&O Radio etc.
How do you make favourites – can you access these with a Beoremote One (do they show up there)…that is, if you use a BROne with your ASE products?MM
Not sure how Hiort got this/B&O Radio working!
Today I received an answer from the support team ( ?).
I got this explanation:
Which means, that the app is ahead of the SW of the ASE products.
The product update will come after the summer vacations.
P.S.
They also mentioned that the regular app SE is ahead of the beta, because the had had to prioritize the regular one.
MM
Welchen Fernseher/BV bzw A/V Receiver benutzt du denn?
MM
Well….Guy was faster than I ?
MM
Be sure to get the Beoremote One/BT.
The BV Horizon only works with bluetooth!
Tip!
If you have the Bang & Olufsen app and the tv is online/on the same network as the device with the app, you can control the Horizon that way.MM
Thanks!
tumbling vs fumbling – oh, well ?
How am I to know…..this ‘well known film’ is not known to me ?
And thanks for the Henderson/McLachlan hint – will check that out.
MM
Listening to the excellent Sarah McLachlan album from 1993
tumbling towards ecstasy
MM
Thanks!
However, that needs a bit more information.
I am running the beta 4.0.1 and trying to update the app redirects me to the Testflight app saying that I have the latest app version.
Trying to play stations from the B&O Radio part results in a ‘not supported on this (means an ASE) product’ message.
Where/when and how did you get the 4.1.0 version – respectively where did you find the information on this?
And further….how do you create a radio station list that you – afterwards – can access via the Beoremote?
Edit!
On another device I have the regular app version – that is 4.1.xxxx (got updated a week ago).
No sign of support for B&O Radio there either, when I try to play to my Essences and M3’s.MM
‘Unless you tell me there are better DACs…’
First we would have to define what ‘better DACs’ would mean.
There are different DACs, yes – but generally the DACs of today have reached a ‘quality’ (whatever that means), where you do not have to invest a lot of money.
In your case – since you use a USB to coax/S/PDIF conversion – your focus point would be the ‘DAC-solution’ inside the BL5’s/the way that the incoming data are processed.
I can only recommend to experiment with different solutions – but be sure to have playback at the same SPL (messured volume level), when you compare.
Even a small difference in the level may fool you to think one is better than the other (that is how human perception of sound works).Anyway – enjoy your BL5’s….and do remember that the most important part of music listening is the quality of the recording/mixing/mastering of the files/the music.
