      @Madskp
: from my Linkplayer experience: • BS3000 displayed, on activation, that the source was either N.RADIO or N.MUSIC. It then displayed the song and the author via horizontally scrolling displayed; or, the radio station and the song. • BL3500 only displayed N.MUSIC or N.RADIO; no additional data was displayed.

Thanks for clarifying this. Also explains why user Matador never got the BL3500 showing Metadata in a BL3500 when he was playing with the Beoport and LInkplayer software earlier this year.

And success! I found the “secret” commands to unmute/mute the Powerlink speaker: unmute – 0x1C mute – 0x1D Prerequisite is an already running Beomaster.

Just to understand this correctly. You can then activate the Beomaster in a muted state via the datalink’86, and then afterwards unmute it also with datalink’86. Is that correct?

Visually it looks like a Beovox C30/C40 or CX50, but I haven’t heard of this variant before, Guess there can’t be many differences, but maybe someone else can chime in. I can see that the various repair shops has parts for it, so can’t be that rare parts vise

About BeoLab 3500 MK1 In the meantime I learned that BeoLab 3500 til serial number 19343452, are MK1. All serial numbers from 19343452 and up are MK2. So mine (ser. 1787 xxxx) is a MK1 (like you mentioned before Madskp). Also I read on the archived forum (post by Keith Saunders) that the Service Manuals for the BeoLab 3500 MK1 and LCS9000 are the same. In the service manual of the LCS9000 the Pin layout of the DIN connector is shown like this: This is the way I created a Mini-Jack to DIN cable before for a LCS9000. And it worked. Using the same cable for the 3500 MK1 gives a hum.

Btw I am no really sure where you are going with this as your wirering seems to be as it should according to the specifications in the servicemanual for the LC9000/BL3500 MK1

I will see if I can replicate the hum on my BL3500 MK1 and repport back with my findings.

It is the 230V power plug I suggest you rotate 180 degree, not the DIN plug pins

Also one other easy thing to try: Try to rotate the figure 8 power plug in the Beolab 3500 180 degrees.

I have also received mine now and got it up and running.

Very nice and very good quality. and attention to detail for easy assembly.

I have testet it on both a Beosound Ouverture (Tape2), a Beomaster 4500 (Tape1 and Tape 2) and a MCL2AV (Tape), and from my little testing it seems to work flawless with the Beotooth 5500 activating all of the above when playing music from my phone, and also all of the systems being able to control the music (start, stop and skip) via the B&O remote and local control on the music systems.

Based on my little time with it till now I can only reccomand it.

Thanks to Pilatomic for making our old systems even more usefull 🙂

I was leaning in that direction after reading this post from B3OHACK3R: https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/forums/topic/universal-link-adapter/page/4/#post-25565 But perhaps I misunderstood.

Not entirly sure, but in option 2 a TV should be able to get the local volume control signals from an audio systems volume buttons sent via datalink. Not sure if that will also work the other way as there has not been any datalink/masterlink compatible TV’s with local volume control. Hope you can get some more info from the real datalink experts

                      Thnx Madskp.

I have ordered a 7-Pin DIN plug, to include pin-7 in the grounding.
Will come back with feedback when I have received and tested this.

Hope that will solve it, and please report back. If that works I will make an updated pinout diagram for this

Here in Denmark they are available at most hardware stores / building centers.

That said the loose connection is not because of the brittle plastic. The screws are sitting in a metal piece which the cable ends are pushed into. It could be that the cable ends are not pushed long enough in, or that the terminal block is not big enough for three cables at the same time

you could try to connect to pin 7 also. When the BL3500 is used in an MCL system all three are connected via the cabeling. Also pin 7 is the only one with direct connection to ground in the speaker

Do you run 2 separate ground wires from the minijack to the Din connector? Then maybe that could be the issue.

On my testing cables I have connected pin 3, 5 and 7 (ground for MCL data) with a solder blob and just running one common ground

Would metadata also be possible on the BL3500?

It was mentioned as a feature for the Linkplayer software for Beoport back in the old forums.

Found one on Ebay and ordered it. Should be nice to have for things like this

Nice! I think most of these cheap ones still work with the Saleae application. It’s a straight forward to use tool.

Looking forward to get my hands dirty on some datalink ?

You can also try to measure voltage on pin 6 and 7 on your devices just to see if you also have the 5V on pin 6

I just checked – same results for me (exactly as in your first post).

Ok so at least consistent results

You have an MK1 which has a different pinout. Have a look at little down in this thread that has the pinout for both the MK1 and MK2

                                    https://www.hifi4all.dk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32157&PN=1&TPN=30

Menu, 0, 4, go is the right operation. Note that when this mode is activated any remote command or button command on the BL3500 will make it go to standby

                                    Hope this helps

There are some pretty inexpensive logic analysers available. Search on Amazon for 8CH logic analyser. Should be more than enough for anything that might get send on the Data Out pin.

but it could be an interesting test nevertheless.

                                          Indeed

Perhaps we should try connecting the BS1’s Data + and Data – to a Masterlink device Data in/out (pins 1 and 2) and see what happens? If I am feeling brave I could try it with my BV10-32, but I wouldn’t know what to connect to the ‘ML sense’ pin 3.

Maybe not a good idea as the Masterlink data is something like 0.25V and I measured 5V in one of the pins on my parents BS1. But maybe @B3OHACK3R can elaborate on that

Hi again Sorry – I might not have been clear on my earlier post. I wonder the a Beoceter 9500 could be used as the slave unit instead of the Beomaster 4500? Thanks Alan

No unfortunately not. The first software versions of the Beomaster 4500 is the only units I know that are able to get the right option settings to works as a slave unit.
