Here is my experience with B&O so far.
Beolab 8000 on thier own are weak down low as you say but crisp and clear mid +
Beolab 6000 we’ll balanced at low volume bad at higher volumes.
Beolab 8000 with beolab 2 are clear up top and good bass but the mid power slightly off depending on volume range.
Pentas – never experienced
Beolab 1 very clear from mids + but don’t have bass to match on their own.
Beolab 1 + beolab 2. A completely different experience! I have never had my hair sand on end listening to music but these do it! Extremely clear and sound powerful and not loud.
So maybe the penta MK3 would be good as they have a good reviews in comparison to the beolab 1 from what I have seen. Also depends on volumes you listen at i find these speakers sound very different depending on volume apart from beo1 + 2 which seems balanced all the way?Have to see what others say. There is also the style factor beolab 8000 look amazing when not in use penta not so sure.
I need to try beolab 5 next and see if I can find some 90’s on display.
I will be interested to see what others say as the reviews I have seen are old now.

24th October 2008It is not unusual to find these loudspeakers to be completely dead with not even the red standby indicator showing. The cause is usually the standby transformer, the primary winding burns out. B&O now supply only the complete amplifier as a replacement part, this is a very expensive way to deal with such a simple fault. An alternative is to source your own transformer, RS Components 504-363 being one alternative. The pin arrangement is slightly different so some cutting and bridging of the trackwork of the PCB will be necessary. [Beolab 8000]”

How are your BL8000 speakers connected to your beosound 9000. You should be using the powerlink leads.
When you say digital output i believe the beosound 9000 only outputs in analogue via the following connectors:
powerlink socket 1
Powerlink socket 2
Masterlink socket.
3.5mm Heaphone socket.Beolab 8000 have power modes. Standby (red LED) and on (green LED)
In regards to beolab 8000 these have two possible inputs:
Powerlink. Connecting with powerlink from beosound 9000 should turn the speakers on when the CD player is first turned on before the CD starts playing. Light on beolab speakers should be green (on) and sound should start as soon as cd starts playing. There signal wire in the powerlink cable that tells the speakers that then need to turn on (green led), this signal keeps the speakers on when the beosound 9000 is powered on.
RCA / Phono in. if this is used there is circuitry inside the speaker that detects if signal is being received before the speaker is turned on and green light is displayed. Connecting using this method could cause delay in sound output when first playing on beosound 9000.
When testing output from beosound 9000 please use cheap 3.5mm headphones plugged directly into headphone port on beosound 9000. This will remove the complication / possible issue with your headphone amp.
Please review and test beosound 9000 with headphone to confirm audio output when CD / radio is playing. Confirm powerlink cables are being used on speakers and they turn on (green LED) when beosound 900 is powered on.
Cofirm the fault is the player the issue or the speakers?

So my beolab 8000 speakers being serial number 19… / 2007 model year seems that design fix has already been applied for this issue.In regards to KolfMAKER he found that exchanging transformer board did fix his issue so maybe this ties in with his issue and he can apply this solution depending on the serial numbers of his speakers. He hasn’t mentioned serial numbers from what I have read.
Fix applied to boards – PCB 02 version F onwards.I confirm board number on my speakers and test on suspect components on my boards and see if replacing them can resolve the sensitivity issues I am seeing.

Thanks to KolfMAKER for the excellent posts. I am having similar issue on my Beolab 8000 MK2 SN 19.
My Problem:
speaker set to Line in / RCA. Only power lead connected.
Speaker powers on, green light then turns to standby momentarily then immediately back to power on, this just sequence keeps repeating.
No issues when connecting with Powerlink.
I have X2 speakers and when checking the other “good one” it just stayed in standby with only power line connected, however when messing with it some more. I got it match the same fault as the other bad speaker, with it jumping out of standby a few times, before it settled into standby mode.This seems to be a sensitivity issue related to the signal sensing circuit. It appears one of my speakers is too sensitive and the other is on the limit.
I have tied powering off all other electrical systems in the house / testing speakers in same location and I get same issue replicated on the one speaker.

This small inbalance in transformer output may be pushing you speaker over the sensitivity limit?, as earlier poster said this transformer output difference should be ok / within limits.

Keith Saunders posted about a modification needed to Beosound 6000 with this issue. I will D/M him and ask if he has any input.

Power-link mode: Mount a 1 nF capacitor across 03D1.
Line mode: Mount a diode 1N4148 between 03R126 and 03D19.Apparently, B&O designed a fix?
Also has any one got MK2 Beosund 8000 diagrams / updated service manual, im not sure if this on the site as im not a silver gold member any more.
In addition, I have reviewed the wiring for line input sensing circuit that seems to be causing the issue and possible problem components however I’m not too sure. Find attached
