They should have made that logo with a tiny always on led behind it to find the Halo in the dark and place the motion sensor maybe somewhere else.
Also adore my set of 17’s!
Interesting analysis by the way regarding “cannibalization” of the 28’s ! I have read many times that sales ratio 18 vs 17 was about 10 to 1 so that probably being the reason the 17’s had such a remarkable short commercial B&O career . But there could be something more indeed…
I have already wondered myself if a well tuned 17/19 combo versus a pair of 28’s actually would be the easy win for the 28’s that a man would expect looking at difference in size (of the pricetag….)
If only the OEM floorstands where a bit higher, that would have made them even more suitable for a dedicated stereo setup , with a 19 or alone.
December 22, 2022 at 6:19 pm in reply to: How to repair an irreparable BeoPlay A6 – a repair guide #12900wow, really good info and excellent write-up!! Don’t have an A6 myself but hopefully many people will take advantage of this information when directed by Google and friends.
After reading your repair guide the still unsolved dreaded “bricked blinking red LED A8” problem comes to mind…
Beosound Edge is my absolute number 1, both looks and sound, brass tone that is.
Unfortunately nobody understands the Edge but please forget the marketed wallclock and listening room divider nonsense asap and just place it like you would have placed an A9 and guess what…..it will have the A9 for breakfast…..:)Beolab 17 , also brass. Superb stereo setup and very rich full sound for it’s size. Connected to a Core and Transmitter 1 and was pleasantly surprised how rock solid this WISA setup works. Probably helps that other companies with better software people interfered with the WISA development. If this was a pure B&O development no way it could have been so stable….
Anyway, really pleasing the 17’s. In doubt now for adding a BL19 for the fun of it.BV11 with BL4000 as rears, relative simple and cheap but wonderful home cinema setup, debating for adding BL11…
Multiple Beoplay A8’s in smaller rooms, absolute ridiculous value for money in neo vintage B&O land. I will make a dedicated post with some interesting facts on them sometime.
Level Stereopair (gold oak). Love the looks, build quality is superb. Sound gorgeous, mozart is nice but I can’t get over the lacking base department compared to my other speakers, probably will sell them soon.
I will give it another try during the weekend. Thanks all.
I just use one for the most basic functions like track skip, volume and starting internet radio.
use it with Level, Core, Edge and BV11 , all works flawless now.
Had loads of issues in the beginning but this was the result of an old wifi router and buggy initial firmwares. Now my Halo works just perfect!
It is due to it’s price a really poor seller! My experience is if you want one or more Halo’s best is to try to negotiate, I got a pretty good deal with my dealer who was happy to finally sell one ! The 800-900€ MSRP is absurd for what it is….
I was finally able to compare my stereo paired Levels to a recently acquired set of 17’s. As you can see on the picture the cabling was still a quick and dirty setup but boy oh boy, I do understand all the cheering about the potency of these things now!! I’m proud to be an official Beolab 17 fanboy !
As much as I love(…..d) my Levels, they are absolutely no competition whatsoever for the 17’s. With every aspect people are judging speakers by they clearly win, except for the fact maybe Level has a battery and is an all in one portable Mozart, but that’s really it. Why were they discontinued so quickly compared to for example the predecessor BL4000 ?Regarding the stereo pairing with Mozart based speakers: I also had numerous stability issues with my stereo paired Level, but after the last few firmware updates the Level pair is performing absolutely rock-solid! On some occasions i need to reboot one or both of them but that is really rare and I use them a lot!
It shouldn’t be that complicated I guess. I’m just so much in love with the sound and looks of just one Edge (brass tone/Parisian night covers) ) that a native stereo pair of this funky but gorgeous speaker would be my absolute dream setup. @B&O if you demand a confirmed and paid Edge order for a second one before developping this , where can I sign ? 🙂
Probably asked here in the past, but wouldn’t a Mozart based Core make the moste sense?
(With some kind of nice looking designed small control panel with the obliged favourite buttons)
Also got the private sale mail. A9 from €3099 to €2399 and Edge €3250 to €1999 (silver only). Thats a real bargain!
Read my Edge promotions and get the deal of the century 😉
Although I wrote that my Edge is stable Spotify connect actually can use some improvement. Selecting the Edge sometimes takes 2 of 3 attempts before it starts playing. And since Spotify connect improvements are mentioned I will give this update a go and report back here.
I might seriously consider it IF the halo’s battery lasted more than 2 days or if it didn’t constantly drop off the network and not respond. It’s a shame it has so much potential and 2 years ago they said more features were coming but it’s still basically fancy volume controller unless you more than double the price. P.S. there is a new version of the Intelligence coming out I hear but no idea on whats new.thanks for your detailed feedback on the Theatre, I will wait now for sure….regarding Halo connection and battery life issues, these are usually related to wifi connection settings. My Halo (using with Edge and Stereo paired Level) battery lasts for about a week and connection is stable. I had loads of issues when my wifi router transmitted on both 2.4 and 5ghz using the same SSID’s. Had constant connection losses and battery life maybe 24 hours. After using the Halo on just 2.4ghz band al works fine and stable. Maybe this helps you.Does your wifi router transmit on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz with the same SSID?
try and switch off one of the bands in the wifi settings, it may help….
I have had numerous connections issues with my Halo, this trick fixed it for me.
Cool info Beozip! Did you just carefully pry of the plastic cover ?
it will not bend doing that?
For extra support / info you could also sent a message to the company
They seem to be the company (located in Austria) contracted by B&O to have made the Essence remotes. They specialize in remotes and the name is found on the small print of the sticker on the essence plastic mounting plate….
If you search on the archived forums you will find a post about this, but If I remember correctly it was next to impossible without damage since the ring is press fitted.
one big gamble would me immersing the remote in a bowl of alcohol and hope for the best. …
Maybe someone else has better advice…. They are super nice little remotes and without the full essence kit the wheely remotes can be used IR / Bluetooth with many beosound/play speakers!
This is getting slightly out of topic but any real active topic on this small cosy forum is a good one right 😉
All knowledge shared here usually comes back to one elemental question, what B&O gear sounds better!
regarding your question, no I did not listen to an Edge in stereo myself. Getting an extra one would be possible in our living but it would be sure as hell pushing the limits it looking at size and decibels versus square meters! Before buying the Edge I watched all the video’s on youtube about it and in the comments some people stated using Edge in stereo and it should sound epic…just like A9 (John tested A9 in stereo and commented on it somewhere in one of his own video’s)
For me Edge is very lonely at the top design wise, I think it’s the best looking speaker compared to all the other Beolab and Beosound material. (The brass one, with Parisian Night Blue cover).
I have absolutely no experience with Google home, that’s needed for pairing Edges. But is bluetooth used for pairing, wifi? And for example can you control a google home paired B&O stereo pair with the Halo, essence remote? Any limitations ? I really dont know.
For me the Edge with Mozart upgrade and native stereo pairing would be a dream.
So B&O wants to do sustainable, start a Mozart upgrade program for Stage, Edge, A9 please!Thank you Simon and others!
Next to my two Levels I also have a brass Beosound Edge in the same room as written in my “bought an Edge” topic.
I use both my Level Stereo pair and Edge alternately depending on music type and more important volume (time of the day, neighbours etc) . The true stereo effect of 2 paired Levels is a big plus but like written above they really do distort at higher volume levels. The Edge alone also sounds much fuller with much deeper bass obviously.
Like written on my Edge topic I feel there is a general misconception about placement of the Edge. Mine is placed is near the wall and it sounds gorgeous. Simon, when you listened to the Edge did they configure beam control right? Difference when placed near a wall between setting back drivers On and Off is absolutely HUGE! With the back drivers off it sure sounds much thinner then it should considering it’s size. And I am 100 percent sure there are some people in this B&O world out there who got an Edge demo at the dealer with a perhaps ignorant sales assistent or intern with just the two back drivers switched on in beam control setting and ran away 🙂Edge is still one of the most underrated speakers, even our beloved John prefers it above A9 in his review!
For me the whole “two separate listening areas” with the Edge was a terrible marketing mistake! But they needed to do that to separate it from the A9, only the Active Bass port sure wasn’t enough to justify the launch of the product and price difference.
Marketing people figured out: One intense area (at the side of the big bass driver) and one for easy listening at the opposite side with just midrange and tweeter. Now who is gonna do that?! Nobody! Problem is this marketing story scares off people buying an Edge, and it’s a shame!Think of the latest MK A9, the rear drivers where added for one reason, to create a much more room filling sound using the wall reflection , nobody has an A9 in the middle of the room….
So much reviewers did not “understand” the Edge, it’s just a more powerful A9 with different (better…) looks and deeper bass. Simple as that.
ok enough about the Edge now 🙂
I did consider the Balance in stereo pair to compensate the bass and volume shortage of the Level but still using Mozart (like it!). I remember there was however an issue with the Balances. In stereo pair only the straight ahead sound profile was possible and not the 360 mode resulting in the fact 2 Levels sound actually better in stereo then Balance. Any info on this??
My setup is stable again and Halo battery life back to a small week with daily use!
My wifi router broadcasted on 2.4ghz and 5ghz with identical SSID’s. Switching of the 2.4ghz band improved Halo connection between my Level stereo pair and Edge a bit but still quirky sometimes. Switching of the 5ghz band and only operating my B&O gear on 2,4ghz seems to give the most stable wifi connections! Did a network scan and my neighbours are all on 2,4ghz , but the channel 1 option wasn’t used by anyone in the neighbourhood. So manually opted for 2.4ghz only , channel 1 and all my B&O gear is very stable at the moment. Maybe this info could help other people. If you google Sonos and 5ghz you will get a million hits with nothing but trouble, but I can’t remember reading over here people had issues with Beosound/play stuff on wifi 5ghz ??
I also use a pair of Levels for music and alway wondered how they compare vs a set of 17’s. Really like the look of the brass version of the 17, but they are very hard to find…. Would prefer them with a Core and Halo for control.
Any experience here for a set of Level vs BL17?? - AuthorPosts
