(Based upon my experience with BC2300s)
I would replace all the belts including the glass door drive also as that one has to work quite hard!
It could also be worth checking that the Ouverture recognises every button on the keypad, as these have been know to fail (usually a complete row or column if the trace cracks).
I am not sure about the CD laser parts – possibly worth giving the lens a good clean and then test on partial re-assembly before putting your tools away!
Just checked. If I press CD it activates Spotify. Same as using Shift CD
Thanks – useful to know, but I do wonder if there is indeed a method of sending CD2 or JOIN on the DTV remote.
Found a Beo 4 with DTV and tried the Shift CD command. It didn’t join what was playing instead started up Spotify
Thanks for checking that. So if you just press CD do you usually get SPOTIFY, or is SHIFT CD a different command to CD?
A further thought: When CD2 was dropped from the LIST function of Beo4, perhaps B&O moved it back to the SHIFT CD sequence. (I think SHIFT CD is CD2 on BL1000 – the later Mk3 and 4 variants. On early BL1000, SHIFT CD gave DVD)
Can someone with a DTV (non-navi) Beo4 try adding SHIFT to the LIST button and see whether SHIFT CD works as JOIN?
Wow! Thank you petermc and Guy. I’m happy to report that both my Beo4’s have CD2 and that both activate the JOIN command on a JOIN-button IR Eye connected to BLC NL/ML: (1) “Go” 1997 Beo4 (AV Key, no N.MUSIC, no N.RADIO) has CD2 (2) “Go” 2000 or later Beo4 (DVD Key, N.MUSIC and N.RADIO) has CD2
Great that it works! I will now add JOIN to my list of Beo4 NAVI soft commands and their equivalent IR transmissions on older remotes. So far I have:
- APPLETV is the same as V.AUX2 (APPLETV not on all Beo4 NAVIs)
- USB is the same as A.TAPE2/N.MUSIC
- DOCK is the same as PHONO/N.RADIO
- JOIN is the same as CD2 (CD2 only available on early Beo4s such as AV and DVD version)
CD2 works as Join when turning on my Beosound 35’s
Is that with a Beo4, and if so which version?
As far as I am aware, CD2 was only available on older Beo4s, for example the ‘AV’ version. I am not sure about the later ‘DVD’ version, and I think it was removed prior to the ‘DTV’ version.
It is quite possible that the CD2 IR command was re-purposed as JOIN for the Beo4 Navi.
EDIT: Thought it rang a bell; ’twas discussed here: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.co.uk/forums/p/23348/193313.aspx#193313
I checked the Registry and the ‘LastUpdate’ field is now showing ‘2023-02-21’. Previously it was showing ‘2021-11-15’.
I am not sure when it updated to my computer. I just ran the Registry updater again and it stayed at 2023-02-21.
I just checked BeoPort and BBC radio stations are playing on N.RADIO – sort of…
However, they seem to play for a while and then cut out. If you look at the N.RADIO Info page it changes from this (with a status of ‘Playing’):
(as always, click to enlarge photos so that you can see the relevant text)
To this (with a status of ‘Finished’ – not seen that before!):
To re-start the station playing, you have to change to another station and then back.
Interestingly, the Windows problem where it used to ‘Mute’ when changing stations has also disappeared. (This is described here)
I will have a look at the N.RADIO databases and see if any have been updated. Perhaps either B&O or the BBC are fiddling with some settings.
Thanks for sharing – a great modification. Any plans to make the stand work, or does it already?
I have no experience with the NL/ML converter, but according to the lexicon the JOIN function can be added to the LIST Button of a Beo4 Navi (the one with the little joystick)
EDIT: And according to this the Beoremote One (IR version) can send the command also: https://support.bang-olufsen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041742571-How-do-I-activate-sources-using-BeoRemote-One-or-Beo4-
My IP is in the U.S. Now, in the discussion above the UK tax (“licence”) is mentioned. I do not pay this tax and never signed up for TuneIn back when that was an option.
There is no requirement to pay for a licence for BBC Radio, even outside UK. Outside UK, certain broadcasts (eg live sport) may be restricted due to ‘rights restrictions’, but you can get around this using a VPN service. This is a separate issue to the BBC stream format that is causing problems on some older B&O (and other makes) equipment.
Someone mentioned there is another thread: where is it?
Is this the other thread that you mean? https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/forums/topic/beoport-n-radio-stopped-working/
This is very interesting.
How did you connect the Beocom with the DECT ?
You may not get a response from jesuisrelou because the discussion about DECT is over a year old.
But from memory, when I connected my BC6000 to a DECT router/modem I simply used the handset’s ‘Register’ menu to search for the DECT base, and it found and connected with ease. Depending on the modem/router, you may need to log in to its setup menu to enable the DECT functionality and make it ‘discoverable’.
Then I got a V8000 beocord to repair, black screen.
I can’t find the service manual by any chance does anyone have one? It’s available on Beoworld (Main Web Site) for Silver and Gold Members!
Thanks a lot for your support! Just called to B&O support – it is MK1. So for any one who might be interested – 0952 is also MK1 =)
That was quick – thanks for letting us know! ?
Good question – I suspect that the above table was not kept up to date in the later years of Beocom 2 production. You can probably get in touch with B&O support with the full number and ask them.
See here for Mk1/Mk2 differences: https://beoworld.co.uk/faq_view.asp?id=94
EDIT: B&O support here: https://support.bang-olufsen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038206572
As far as I know it’s the second to fifth digit. Hence in your example type number is 0952.
There is a Test Mode, but you have to remove the case and short-circuit the CD clamper switch for 2-3 seconds. Pressing 7 then deletes all preset programmes, but I think this just means radio presets rather than timer/clock function.
I would have thought that a dead lithium processor backup battery would cause the unit to reset the clock. As you suggest, try leaving the BS2500 powered down for a time (several hours, in case the battery has some life in it) and then reconnect to mains power, noting the time of start and then waiting to see what is displayed on the BL3500.
Great result – thanks for letting us know that it worked, and enjoy your TV! ?
Which terminals are you using on the TV? If it’s the ones behind the little flap top left then you can activate by pressing CAMERA on the Beo4 remote.
You can add CAMERA to the Beo4’s LIST button by following this procedure:
– Press Power (Red Dot) and LIST together, the display should read ADD?
– Press GO.
– Press LIST until the display shows CAMERA, then GO.
You should now be able to find CAMERA by pressing LIST repeatedly until it shows in the display. Then simply press GO to select the input.
Hi Adam,
Firstly I just amended you post to show the photo in the text rather than as an attached heic file (which some browsers struggle to display!)
Secondly I am 99% sure that you will need a clock-enabled ML (or MCL) audiomaster in order to show the time on BL3500 – a videomaster may also work but I am not sure.
EDIT: I think early BS2500 (with the two-way IR) had the clock function, but to set and operate it you needed to use a two-way remote such as the BL7000 or BL5000. The two-way BS2500 could be recognised by its IR window being bottom left of the unit below the moving glass doors, as shown below:
