Thank you for your response, Carolpa. I wouldn’t even had thought about the security screws. Could you tell me where they are located?
That’s an interesting choice, Steve. The original Beosound 1 rarely gets much attention. A problem that I see with all of the aluminum grill speakers, though, is that they show dings very noticeably. It’s challenging to find them pristine on the second-hand market after all these years.
My choice of speaker to suggest to someone new to B&O would be the Beoplay A6 or Beoplay M5. These speakers are very affordable, have the modern streaming services as well as aux input, have that B&O tactile magic (especially the A6 where you just run your hand along the top to adjust the volume), and beautifully fit into any decor. Even better is to get both so that you can begin to appreciate B&O’s multiroom benefits and expandability.
Just for fun, I’m going to throw another concept into the mix:
Beosound 3
It has an extremely small footprint and surprising sound for its size. It has radio and an aux input. You can create a handful of SD cards as “mixed tapes” and have them in a small tray or bowl next to the Beosound 3. You can take the music with you outside for a nice walk by popping the SD cards into a Beosound 3 mp3 player with earphones. A very retro concept.
However, it’s a challenge to find one in good working condition. The touch-sensitive controls tend to go bad. I was fortunate enough to find one in perfect condition.
P.S. I must correct my earlier remark. I checked and the Beosound 3 does NOT have an aux input. The socket that I saw on it turns out to be a headphone socket.
My Theatre was expected to arrive today, but my dealer has told me that there is now a 2-3 week delay. I went ahead and bought an LG C2 77″ so that I won’t face frustration with the Beoremote One control. It looks like they’ll both be arriving at about the same time.
I’ll be moving my Samsung 75″ 4K screen and Beosystem 4 to the den to replace my Beovision 4-42. I love the brushed aluminum frame on that Beovision 4, but it’s time to make the upgrade from 720p to 4K.
That’s the same as with the Eclipse and Harmony. The Beoremote One BT act as an 2 way remote. Options are send into the BR1BT. Under listing of TV/Music you will get the different sources. And under List you’ll get the different options/settings.
My biggest concern is that we get all of that 2-way functionality with the Beoremote One paired with the Theatre without an LG screen.
There have recently been more entries added to the FAQ. There is now an explanation about setting up and using the PUC. I had wondered how we would access some functions in the Menu with the menu overlay being gone since the video is now passthrough. According to the FAQ, pressing LIST on the Beoremote One will show those functions that would have otherwise been in the menu overlay.
The Beosound Theatre user guide is now available on the B&O site.
isn’t the ethernet port marked TV intended for that connection (between Theatre and TV)? I’m pretty sure that will still be the connection path for LGs paired to the Theatre, but good question about whether that needs to be the same connection for other brands. It certainly looked like this years C series in the instal video that I watched, i.e. an LG.
I fully agree with you. It seems that the FAQ was made with just the “expectation” of one of the LG TVs recommended. It seems that the ethernet connection is required in such situations. However, ARC can work with just CEC. Yet, the specs indicate CEC “INPUT”. This all is very confusing. There’s also the grey area of if a “full integration” expects that we need TV control for the tuner. In my instance, I will use the Apple TV for everything including my cable provider. I just need to turn my TV screen On and Off.
I keep a few handy for when I have the rare need to use it for 3rd party IR commands — such as non-b&o tv, projector, and motorized screen.
It certainly is temperamental. A good word of advice when you’re not using it very often is to periodically check that it’s still properly seated in its charger and that the charger is plugged in. If the remote goes completely dead for too long, it won’t charge. There can be some ways of having a dealer save it, replacing the battery, or doing some difficult other type of charging, but I haven’t found it to be worth the hassle for the few of mine that lost the ability to charge.
I had been concerned about the loss of DTS decoding. Since my previous Beosystems always relied on the player to do the decoding, I never used the bitstream setting of the player. My Sony UHD player has two settings, either “PCM” or “Auto.” I tried the “Auto” setting and the player decoded DTS-HD Master Audio and sent it to the BeoSystem 4 via PCM. Therefore, I’m hoping that this setting will pass Dolby Atmos to the Theatre via bitstream but do the decoding for DTS formats and send that sound to the Theatre via PCM.
MM-
If Henrik had said on your podcast, “Get those N*ggers out of there” would that be acceptable to say on your podcast??
Sorry to say it….. …..but I think you’re exaggerating a bit?
MM, maybe you don’t recognize this, but that was clearly a homophobic slur. That is not acceptable.
The utterance from Henrik was “Get those F-gots out of there.” Beotalk Episode #229, timestamp 41.20. I’ve already reported this to Youtube.
congratulations, what spec did you go for, if you dont mind me asking?!
I went for the basic 55″ in silver andgrey melange and just the included wall mount. I plan to upgrade to 77″ and oak sometime later. FYI, the part of the total price for the fabric is $200. So I suppose that buying just the oak grill later will be an additional $200 on top of the price difference on the website. I would have like the gold tone, but I was told that might be backordered until the end of the year. It’s expected that I’ll receive mine by the middle of October.
I’m going to try to keep my cable from the BeoSystem 4 in place as they are as much as possible. I’ll try to run Cat7 cables from the Theatre’s powerlink sockets to connect to the cables I used for the BeoSystem 4 via RJ45 couplers. It seems less of a mess to have 4 Cat7 cables running from the Theatre than 8 DIN powerlink cables running from the Theatre.
I’m curious to see how much better the Theatre will be replacing my BeoLab 10.
I’m not sure whether I will use the Theatre as just the center channel speaker and keep my BeoLab 9 speakers as front left and right speakers or if I will use the Theater for front left, center, and front right channels and use my BeoLab 9 speakers as wide left and wide right speakers. Any thoughts anyone?
I ordered my Beosound Theatre today.
I’ve been told by my dealer that even thought I don’t have an LG screen that I’ll be able to pair the Beoremote One with the Theatre and control devices connected directly to the Theatre by PUC — such as Apple TV and UHD player. If I just need to add the ability to turn the Samsung TV on/off, I already have that control with the BLI and Global Caché. So I can just create macros to do that.
Never having had Dolby Atmos at home, I sorted through blu-rays and UHDs to pick some Dolby Atmos movies to enjoy when I get the Theatre. I was frustrated to see that there ARE a lot of discs that only have DTS. I guess I’ll have to live with going into my UHD player settings to switch from bitstream to PCM whenever I need to play a dts-only movie.
Can anyone discern what the difference might be between the third row and fifth row in the chart for third party integration? Both refer to the Theater turning the TV screen off when the Theater is switched to standby, but it’s unclear what the difference is between those two rows.
I’ll try to attach the file regarding 3rd party tv and projector integration.
Today, a dealer sent me a chart from B&O that shows the types of control available with the Theater and various non-LG TVs and projectors. It looks like there is at least some control. For example, it shows that using the Beoremote One to turn on/off the Theater will turn many TVs on/off.
£1000 for the aluminium wings…? They’re really pushing it…Does anyone know if the larger size of wings is an option where those wings are shipped with the Theater INSTEAD of the standard size wings? Or do we get the larger size of wings IN ADDITION to the standard size wings?I’m curious about this to know if we choose to buy larger wings LATER if the price is even MORE than the quoted price for the upgrade at the time of the purchase of the Theater.Hi Beoworlders, If you are considering buying the new Beosound Theatre, please can you let me know which audio products you would want to use it with? This could be an existing Beosound music system, a Beogram turntable, non-B&O speakers, or something completely different… I will then cover how to make all the connections in my next YouTube video. Kind regards, Steve.
Steve,
A good area to look at here is cable management with an upgrade from the BeoSystem 4. My Beosystem 4 is near a wall other than the wall with my tv. In thinking about how to handle the cabling, I rather like the idea of not having to run new cables. Do you see disadvantages to using your “Shielded RJ45 Coupler” connected to Cat7 cables coming out of the Beosound Theater Powerlink sockets? That would seem like a clean way to manage the cables.
Also, I have a BeoLab Transmitter 1 that I could use with the BeoSound Theater to connect to the 4 BeoLab RJ45 ports and then use WISA to send the sound from the Transmitter 1 to up to 8 of my classic Din8 Beolab speakers. When connecting a Beolab Receiver 1 to a Beolab speaker, do you find that people prefer to use the RJ45 to Powerlink Clip-On adapter that you offer or do people prefer a longer cable like the 1.8 meter adapter that you offer?
