I have been considering buying a B&O TV (Used), to get more out of my speakers. I noticed that the Avant is significantly “cheaper” on eBay. Is there something I should know here? Seems like a pretty high spec’d tv, looks good… Why is the resell so much lower?
Thanks in advance.
August 29, 2022 at 3:02 pm #8136A lot of Avants were sold, so there are quite simply many on the market which dictates price. Moreover the video board is a known weak point in there TVs and costs about 1000€ to exchange.
August 29, 2022 at 3:20 pm #8137The Avant is a lovely TV.
The video board went three times in mine, roughly 1000 to fix it and very long delays as the board has to be programmed to the individual TV
as a result of this I would never buy one
August 29, 2022 at 3:29 pm #8138Be aware that there are two versions of the Avant.
The one that is mentioned above is the 1 gen.
As far as I know the costs for the DVE replacement are not that high anymore (as a dealer before you decide).
If you can live with this risk and am willing to put some money aside from the start, you will get a pretty decent Beovision. Furthermore you must know that you’ll have to add an AppleTV/Chromecast etc solution, since the smart tv platform is not up to date anymore.
The second version (called NG) is younger, but is based on an Android platform, which a lot of the B&O fans does not like.
However, it is said to run rather smooth with the latest updates.
Also here most people add a ATV….
There are some of these that may have display issues. Both are based on the BSys4 audio engine, which gives you a lot of options, when connecting additional speakers.
Many – both 1 gen and NG – are being used nowadays and people tend to like them, but you must consider that these are old tv’s.

August 29, 2022 at 10:42 pm #8146For balance, I have a gen 1 Avant now for about 5-6 years and it’s absolutely wonderful still.
August 29, 2022 at 10:52 pm #8147same here – 5 or 6 years in to mine, and its been all good.
August 30, 2022 at 3:45 pm #8171My Avant 55″ lasted about three years before the video engine went. It would have cost about 1700.00 dollars to replace. This is not all what I had expected for a set that at the time cost around 8,000 dollars plus installation.
August 30, 2022 at 8:13 pm #8172For the record…
….my Avant 1st gen runs perfect.
However, I had to have the DVE exchanged a year ago – which I ‘happily’ paid the price for.
Would have been a crying shame to have such a nice BV trown away because of this.

September 1, 2022 at 10:45 pm #8312Just for the record, the video engines fail due to overheating issues which degrades them until they fail. The new ‘improved’ replacement video engine just has a heat sink attached to it to help with cooling.
If you want to prolong the life of your Gen1 Avant remove the rear covers to let it breathe and cool – especially if it’s on a wall or has boxes on the rear which only add to the heat.

September 3, 2022 at 9:07 pm #8359With the two replacement boards that I had from B&O , I examined them against the original and could find no addiitonal heat sinking.
I subsequently ran the avant with rear covers removed and each failed after about 15 months.
My conclusion is that the boards are ‘fixed’ by B&O but many other components are not replaced , as a result they fail repeatededly
The worse is the huge delay in time to get a replacement board programmed up, in both cases it took over 6 weeks— Never again.
You can almost get a basic LG for the cost of the repair and enjoy reliability and a huge picture improvement.
September 3, 2022 at 10:19 pm #8364Thanks for all the advice. I’ll definitely pass on the Avant. With the new Theatre, which I took a look at in Berlin on Friday, it makes no sense anyway.
Definitely the right direction for B&O.
