I found a thread on solutions for the tacky soft touch surfaces that are metal, but has anyone sorted out anything on plastic? BeoCom 2 bases and now the backs of my BeoLab 9s are starting to degrade and the BeoLab 9s especially, have me very concerned.

      Anyone tackle this?

This surface coating, very “à la mode” in the nineties, always turn into a sticky mess.
I won’t hesitate to call this one of the major industrial fails of that era!

Now, I can’t answer on large surfaces even more if yo can’t take appart the part, but I’ve stripped it of a Beosound 3 wall mount, leaving it satin black where it was before velvet mat black. If I remember well I did this rubbing the coating with warm water.

They are various articles on the web about coating again the part with “Plastic-dip’ paint.
Often Beosound 4 and Beolab 3.

Luckily the back of my Beocenter 6 doesn’t show any sign of stickiness but I’m afraid it won’t last forever.

I appreciate the reply. At the moment they’re still in good enough condition. I just wanted to potentially get ahead of them. Maybe I’ll just wait until they get really gross and throw caution to the wind.

I once removed the stickiness from most of the interior and centre console of a Mk4 VW Golf – that was mostly plastic underneath. I remember using IPA and finding quite a few advice videos on the subject, such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbrznLcQwNg
