I’m not in the uk right now, so I accessed netradio in the uk remotely – and not sure it worked now. It certainly doesn’t work in Spain.

edit: no, NETRADIO doesn’t work for the BBC channels in the UK either. Beosystem 4, beovision 10 & 11.

my beosound 35 gets the BBC channels, but using TuneIn.

I wonder what devices would work – as B&O haven’t come up with a solution yet.

The BBC stations I listen to (2, 3, and 6) play fine from B&O Radio (i.e. from the B&O app) via my BeoPlay A6. I can then join-in my wired Masterlink network via Beolink Converter.

As mentioned above by others, these BBC stations are now dead on my BeoSound 5.

My IP is in the U.S. Now, in the discussion above the UK tax (“licence”) is mentioned. I do not pay this tax and never signed up for TuneIn back when that was an option.

Well, then, the BBC must have ceased working on BeoSound5 because of some reason other than the tax.

Someone mentioned there is another thread: where is it?

There is no requirement to pay for a licence for BBC Radio, even outside UK. Outside UK, certain broadcasts (eg live sport) may be restricted due to ‘rights restrictions’, but you can get around this using a VPN service. This is a separate issue to the BBC stream format that is causing problems on some older B&O (and other makes) equipment.

Is this the other thread that you mean? https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/forums/topic/beoport-n-radio-stopped-working/

I pinged B&O support again, and they are still stumped…… probably hoping we’ll all go away.

Didn’t someone say, on this forum, that the issue was that a certain decoder program built into the Embedded Windows operating system of BeoSound5 is what long-ago, had since been employed to decode the BBC streams?

I wonder how many decoders were built into the BS5 (assuming there is more than one), and whether any of these is able to decode whatever new format the BBC is employing these days. Hard to be an optimist, here.

It would be great if it just needs a change in the radio.db and a download of a new codec. If anyone knows the address of the bbc channels, maybe this would be possible.

as a stopgap, what device giving either B&O radio or TuneIn would I need to add to get these channels back? Ideally low-cost and can be hidden away.

The solution is a line-in into BS5, and a streamer into it. I recommend the Wiim streamer, which can receive both WiFi streams (best) and bluetooth streams (suboptimal).

In my case, like I said above, my stopgap is B&O Radio (i.e. from the B&O app) via my BeoPlay A6. I can then join-in my wired Masterlink, which includes a BS5, via Beolink Converter.

I just checked BeoPort and BBC radio stations are playing on N.RADIO – sort of…

However, they seem to play for a while and then cut out. If you look at the N.RADIO Info page it changes from this (with a status of ‘Playing’):

(as always, click to enlarge photos so that you can see the relevant text)

                    Screenshot (179)

To this (with a status of ‘Finished’ – not seen that before!):

                    Screenshot (180)

To re-start the station playing, you have to change to another station and then back.

Interestingly, the Windows problem where it used to ‘Mute’ when changing stations has also disappeared. (This is described here)

I will have a look at the N.RADIO databases and see if any have been updated. Perhaps either B&O or the BBC are fiddling with some settings.

I checked the Registry and the ‘LastUpdate’ field is now showing ‘2023-02-21’. Previously it was showing ‘2021-11-15’.

                      LastUpdate

I am not sure when it updated to my computer. I just ran the Registry updater again and it stayed at 2023-02-21.

My database shows 2021-11-15. I tried running the database updater, it said successful but made no difference. Paul

Well finally to solve this, I bought from eBay a M3 and plumbed it into my BLC – which gave me B&O Radio. its a bit of a workaround, but it only cost £130 and fixed the problem.

Now to get BBC radio, my sources point to the M3.
