I have a bit of an unconventional set-up, that works very well for me.
LG TV – Marantz SR 6013 – pre-amp out to – Transmitter 1 – wirelessly to Beolab 18 – 19 (front and sub) – Beolab 1/ Amplifier 1 – mounted in ceiling as surround speakers.
In addition I am wirelessly sending signal to Zone 2 ( dining room) and my Beolab 4000’s equipped with receiver 1’s.
It all works fantastically, except, in the evening when we listen to music over dinner, one of the 4000 speakers in the dining room is simply not audible. I had tried everything, swapped receivers, used my second transmitter – nothing worked. However, every time I reset the transmitter one during the day the speakers worked perfectly.
All over a sudden it dawned on me – in the evening during dinner time the equipment has been working already for quite a long time and on further checking I noticed the Transmitter 1 is running extremely hot. I have a device that measures surface temperatures and it was 109 on top and 120 degrees underneath.
So, last night I did a test and for about 10 minutes put an ice pack underneath to bring down the temperatures quickly – and wouldn’t you know it, problem solved speakers work.
So, now I know that high temperatures cause this problem, but what to do about the temps?
Putting every day an icepack seems really silly!! BTW I already keep the Transmitter elevated as I had heard a rumor about running hot.
I simply don’t understand what causes this device to run so hot, there are no motors no amplifiers nothing – just 4 connections from the pre amp of the Marantz.
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
