I noticed my CD 5500 gets very hot to the touch, on the left side near the rear of the unit. There is plenty of airflow around it, I even have the stacked units on risers so there is a good 1/2″ of clearance between them.

      Does the motor need lubrication?

I can’t think of what else could be generating so much heat inside?

      Thx for any advice!

I doubt its the motor as its on the right as is the transformer. My suggestion would be to open the unit per the manual at https://beo.zone/media/files/Bang-Olufsen-Beogram_CD-5500-Service-Manual.pdf and identify the specific component generating heat.

Two things if the transformer gets hot:

          – Is it 220 or 240?

          – Check power supply caps. I had a 5500 with a nearly shorted one (Sony branded) that made the transformer thermal fuse melt.
This might eventually happen to yours.

          Leave the motors alone.

            Thanks guys!

I will reference the schems. It’s 117v, North America version

I found some circuit board pics here, too:

I see some caps and those 2 large things that look like solonoids?

Leave the large silver caps alone, and check the others that supply the different voltage rails.

The full CD5500 service manual (incl 120V US version) is available on the site for Silver and Gold members, if that helps!

Funny that I should still appear as a bronze member Guy, by the way ?

I’ll raise it to Keith – I think there has been a fair amount of manual input required regarding membership status on transition to the new forum.

EDIT: Now sorted thanks to Keith!

I have the service manual, but many sections are illegible due to shadows/focus problems from whoever scanned the doc. Pgs 2-5, 4-1,7-2, 10-1, 10-2, and the last page diagram of the CD7000

Get the real thing. They are usually neither difficult to find nor expensive, and you can sell it again when repairs are done, if you don’t want to keep it.
