      Hi

In my Beovox C40, which sound terrible, the filter elco capacitors are perhaps the cause of that. So I want to replace them and notice they are no bipolair types but regular elco capacitors. Is that standard or did anyone replace them before wrongfully?

Is there any other cause that could have an effect on the sound quality which is as if a blanket is on top of them. Btw the speakers look fine, no damages.

        They should definitely be bipolar!
Are you sure you are not just seeing marks indicating which pin is connected to the caps alu housing (for shielding purposes in some applications)?
        That can sometimes confuse.
        Photo?

        – But they would need replacing anyways due to age.

They are definitely not bipolar Martin, in the pic you can clearly see the plus indicating polarity, and if you google these Roederstein you find they are regular. So, are these the original ones? I presume they are. Could replacing them make them sound good? Regards, Bart

            Thanks for the photo.
            They are bipolar.
Some also have the word “Bipolar” printed across the cap at the “positive” end. Perhaps
visible if you rotate them a little.
Used heavily in B&O passive speakers.
The polarity marks merely indicates which pin is connected to the caps metal house.
But replace them – they will be out of spec by now.

So I replaced the capacitors with bipolair ones.

                The sound has improved dramatically!

                Thanks Martin.

                Regards,
