Beovision 7-32 MK 2 & Chromecast /w Google TV

Hey all,
I’m a long time user of a Beovision 7-32 MK 2 in the bedroom and now tried to add a chromecast /w Google TV (HD version, not 4K). As MK 2 doesn’t have HDMI inputs, I used a HDMI audio extractor to feed audio in 2-ch. mode and video as DVI. The audio extractor worked perfectly in the past together with a technisat SAT receiver and an Apple TV 2 – both picture and sound were fine.
Now with the chromecast /w Google TV I get a perfect picture but absolutly NO sound at all. The audio extractor has 3 audio output settings – auto, 2-ch. and 5.1-ch. It doesn’t matter what setting I try, nothing gives me audio output.
Anybody got the same problem and got a solution for this ?

Yes I did. Chromecast offers Dolby Digital, DTS and newer audio formats. It offers Dolby Digital and DTS if I set the audio extractor to 5.1. If I set the audio extractor to 2.0 Chromecast doesn’t offer any audio format at all.
Could it be a problem of the audio extractor ? Should I buy a newer one ?
I just ordered a new HDMI audio extractor, which another member recommended in another thread as working.
Will report back if it solves my audio problem.
Received the Amazon audio extractor today and immidiatly did a test. Same result as with my old audio extractor – no audio output.
What else can I do ?
Are you sure that you can not set the sound out from the Chromecast/Googletv to PCM 2.0.
That is what the extractor accepts.MM
Audio options on the Chromecast /w Google TV under advanced sound options are:
- Dolby Digital
- Dolby Digital Plus
- Dolby Atmos with Dolby Digital Plus
- DTS

Would it be worth to try to connect audio from the audio extractor via spdif/coax instead of analog to the BV to get sound ?
This all sounds a bit strange – I think from a bit of googling that others have used Chromecast with Google TV and an extractor just as an audio streaming input, so fundamentally it should work. Have you tried unplugging the DVI connection to the TV to see if you just get sound?
It could also be worth trying other leads (hdmi to dvi) and also checking the audio lead that you have used between extractor and TV PC input. Also try connecting another analogue input (phone etc) to the TV’s PC input whilst the rest of the setup is connected to the DVI input.
Also worth checking that the audio extractor is getting sufficient power – I used a 12W Apple adaptor with mine.
SPDIF could be worth a try also but I am not sure how the TV then choses the right audio input.
Dare I say it could be worth trying yet another audio extractor? I did send a couple back to Amazon for a full refund when I was experimenting!

Looks like those are settings for multichannel sound.
There must be a setting for ‘downmix to 2 channel’ somewhere.MM
I just remembered that I had a sound output problem when I used an Atlona extractor. I decided that it could be an EDID problem – see my post (and the rest of the useful thread) here:

I think Guy’s hint to run video through DVI, and feed some random audio from a phone is a good idea to find out if there is something with the audio signal coming from the extractor.
Where are you based BeoIce? I have an extractor lying around that I can send to you. I do not need it anymore. I just tested it with a BV6 using a laptop, and it works with the headphone out (audio connection set to ‘none’ btw). I could not get audio from the S/PDIF coax out. Let me know if you want to give it a go.

JohanI used it with AppleTVs previously, but I could test it with a (regular) Chromecast as well. Needs a bit of time as I need to borough back that Chromecast I gave my brother :-).
BeoIce mention in the first post that his converter works with SAT SetTopBox and it works with Apple TV 2.
So the problem must be related to the audio formats supported by Google TV.
I guess we can ask BeoIce to confirm that the new converter from Amazon works with other HDMI sources.
Just to re-confirm the problem only persist with Google TV
Yes, I got that (a bit late :-)). Still my obsolete converter could maybe be ignoring the EDID handshake that Guy mentioned, and a lucky shot to solve the issue.
I am such an idiot.
It’s so long ago that I configured an old B&O TV.
My setup was:
Technisat SAT receiver HDMI out –> HDMI auto switch port 1 –> HDMI to DVI Cable –> TV DVI IN.
Technisat SAT Receiver Scart Audio –> TV AV1 scart
Apple TV 2 HDMI out–> HDMI audio extractor –> split video/audio -> Video: HDMI auto switch port 2/ Audio –> TV AV2 scart
Then I added the Chromecast /w Google TV to the HDMI auto switch port 3 and configured AV3 on the B&O TV, but didn’t have in mind that this requires Audio IN on AV3 scart. If there’s no connection then there’s no audio.
As I didn’t use the Apple TV 2 anymore I removed it and installed the Chromecast to the same connections of the Apple TV 2 instead.
Now I have video and audio.
