Happy New Year all of you.

Forgive me if this has been covered in the past? I have had my Beovision for a little over a year and have been using a Roku device in HDMI port 1 with no issues, it has been great. However, I wanted to try my old LG BLuray player with the TV, and have a very odd problem.

TV detects the new device when powered on, which is good. I set the device type as “BluRay” and finish the config without the PUC configuration as there is no PUC code for my device. Not an issue for use as the player is in sight and I don’t mind using the OEM remote for now.

However, the picture looks as if it is a terrestrial TV signal channel out of tune, with snow all over it. It will then flicker, and go blank, flash, and return to the snow scene…. I have tried 2 cables, both do the same. The same 2 cables show a nice clear image on the PC monitor I have via HDMI.

I then tried the Roku device in the HDMI socket I had the Bluray in, and it works perfectly, so this cannot be an issue with the HDMI port, can it?

      Any help very gratefully received.

No one ever had this issue then?

It looks like the sort of picture you get when there is a mis-match between resolutions – I used to see similar trying to connect PS3 to various TVs. The PS3 had the ability to automatically cycle through various resolutions until the picture was clear.

Is there a menu in the LG BluRay player where you can adjust the output resolution?

Agreed, and I have tried the (very) limited options for the HDMI output. I just downloaded the user manual and discovered the little nugget…:

            Additional Information for HDMI
When you connect a HDMI or DVI compatible
device make sure of the following:
            — Try switching off the HDMI/DVI device and
this player. Next, switch on the HDMI/DVI
device and leave it for around 30 seconds,
            then switch on this player.
            — The connected device’s video input is set
            correctly for this unit.
            — The connected device is compatible with
            720x576p, 1280x720p, 1920x1080i or
            1920x1080p video input.
Not all HDCP-compatible HDMI or DVI devices will work with this player.
            — The picture will not be displayed properly
            with non-HDCP device.

            =============================================

Any chance this TV is not HDCP compatible?

No – even my old BV10-32 is HDCP compatible!

Have you tried the BluRay player with another TV? Could it be faulty? (EDIT: Just re-read that you had tried with a PC monitor – sorry!)

As a side note you have probably noticed that your replies are not formatted correctly. It’s a bit clunky, but use the tab above the message box that says ‘text’ rather than ‘visual’, and then make sure that your reply is on a line below the final ‘blockquote’ text. You can then click the ‘visual’ tab to make sure that it looks right.

Have you tried playing about with the BluRay output resolution as described in its manual here. Maybe try the procedure in the box on the right:

Yes, I tried all output options there, and it is worse when not using RGB for the HDMI output.

                          I hope not!
It is odd that the Roku works perfectly in all 5 of the HDMI ports, but this DVD player won’t work in any of them though. If it was a failing board, would it not fail consistently across all of the HDMI ports on the TV?

Or do you mean the DVD output board is failing?

I just tried another HDMI source, my Dell laptop. Worked perfectly in the HDMI socket that the DVD won’t play through…

So, it seems the sockets are fine, the cable is fine. Time for a new DVD player it seems!

Maybe find one that already has a PUC code in the list! I am sure others will make recommendations. I am still using DVD1, although on the rare occasion that I get a new disc I often just rip it to my NAS and play using Apple TV.

                                Anywhere that list is documented?
Does the PUC do anything but allow IR control from the B&O One remote?

Thank you for the support on this so far, much appreciated.

I don’t think so. As far as I am aware you download a PUC table as part of the configuration process for new sources, so you may have to have a dummy run of going through the source configuration process to see what is available.

No, but in my experience with earlier TVs/PUCs some set-top-boxes or DVD players allow a more user friendly control experience than others. It’s definitely worth asking other Forum members if they can recommend a particular DVD/BR player that they also control using BV11 and Beoremote One.

The Sony players seem to use the same ir set – meaning that you can use the PUC that is listed as ‘Sony Generic’.

Please tell us what you expect from the player.
Do you want Smarttv apps, how is your speaker setup (just the tv) etc?

This is GREAT news! I just ordered a NOS Sony DVD player from Amazon as I had a voucher. So the PUC compatibility will be handy. Good to know, and thank you.

I use the apps from the Roku, works really well. The player will be solely used as a disc source, nothing else. I only have the TV’s inbuilt audio. This may change if I get the chance later to use a wireless setup, price of those is holding me back.

Audio listening is done via a multitude of kit I have built up over the years, but not in thr same room as the TV.

My last post on this issue to close it out in case anyone has something similar in future…

The Sony BluRay arrived this morning. Plugged it in, and BOOM! Works perfectly. I reset HDMI2, went through the PUC choices, and found a generic Sony PUC for all Sony BDP-SXXX players.

BeoRemote One now operates the player.

So it seems the LG isn’t man enough to drive the BV11.

Thank you, for all of the help and suggestions on this post. Much appreciated.
