I am just about done with the restoration of my BM2000, however the tuning lights for FM don’t work, or not consistently. Yesterday, they were lit for a couple of minutes, but then disappeared, and haven’t come back. The manual I have doesn’t seem to cover what it could be and I seem to remember some discussion on the old forums about similar issues, but for the life of me I can’t dig them up.
Any ideas?
March 25, 2023 at 8:35 am #18023Did you replace the tuning lamps?…..I haven’t worked on a BM2000 but I do know that if one changes the lamps on BM4000 they must be the correct mA rating or it causes issues with the rest of the circuit….Dillen (Martin) from the site may be able to supply the correct lamps if thats the case…

March 25, 2023 at 1:29 pm #18038No, haven’t touched the lamps. Like I said, they did work, albeit only briefly. I don’t think I’m getting stereo reception either, as it happens. Mono switch makes no difference to sound.
March 25, 2023 at 3:02 pm #18042Ok……so what did you replace? I’m guessing capacitors and maybe trimmers, double check the polarities of the caps you changed, it’s easy to get one in the wrong way around
March 25, 2023 at 5:57 pm #18057The tuning lights will only come on with a reasonably good antenna signal.
As will stereo reception (and indicator).Martin
March 26, 2023 at 12:02 am #18080Reception seems really strong, no static and otherwise clear and I have a lot of stations to choose from down here. I suppose I could try it in a different room.
I didn’t replace any of the trimmers in the FM section, only in the amp.
March 26, 2023 at 8:24 am #18086Moved it into another room, no change. Bottom tuning lamp is very dimly lit, and doesn’t seem to change much as you search stations.
Bluetooth module is mostly working well, though I have the wifi router right next to it so it picks up a lot of noise. Even a cd in between seems enough to cut it down quite a lot. Sorting that out properly is a job for another day, right now I am pretty happy to have the whole thing back together, and working, even if the tuning lights aren’t quite doing their thing.
