I got a full Beosystem 6500 setup from my uncle that I’m trying to restore, starting with the Beogram.

After replacing the drive belt and untangling the string I got the unit working, almost…

All the functions work except that the stylus gets stuck in the same groove after about a song. The tonearm is still parallel to the sensor arm at this point, and if I lift the arm the motor follows my movements. I also checked that the senor light bulb is working.

Could it just be that it needs new caps? And if so any good guides on which and where (in Europe) to buy, because I can’t find any kits unfortunately.

The sound quality also sound a bit poorer than expected, it’s a bit scratchy/crackling/muffled even with new record. Could it also be the caps, or is the stylus too worn?

Caps? No. But it can be improved with better material.

Sound? Is the load on the MMC adjusted? There is a adjustable weight for the load…

I just did some more troubleshooting,

The tracking force seems to be right, 1,19g (measured with a jewelers scale).

It randomly skips/repeats the groove, maybe every 20-30 seconds. I can’t see any obvious reason why and the tonearm seems parallel to the sensor arm the whole time, even when it skips.

New problem: Twice now it stops playing by itself and resets the arm and turns the beomaster to standby. First time after 3min and second time after 10 min.

I would think it is a matter of lubrication turned hard. The tonearm travels on a rod and that rod may need a good cleaning and new lubrication.

That would see the tonearm move out of parallel with the other arm.

I would remove the platter and press play without the record. Once the arm drops, I would tap it just enough for it to start progressing in. This way you can observe where or when it may be hanging up.

As to your standby problem, I would try running the TT without connecting to the Beomaster and seeing if it still stops.
