Hello everyone,
I am looking for a pair of speakers i can wall mount/bookshelf and hook up with my BeoGram 5000. I’ve seen someone selling a pair of Beovox CX50’s and wondered how i would go about setting these 2 up together and what i might need before buying.
I know the BeoGram doesn’t have a Preamp so i would need to source a Amp that has one built in or get one along with an external Preamp but are there B&O systems i can run this through to keep it all consistent?
If not – could anyone recommend a decent amp that will work with the BeoGram along with wall speakers that pack a punch and will transfer the sound quality please? I find myself at a bit of a loss with the compatibility of these things with other units but i’m desperate to put this amp to good use.
Thanks,
Charlie
June 1, 2023 at 11:12 am #20960Hi and welcome to Beoworld,
I can’t tell about the CX50 but if you’re looking for consistency, you should look around for a Beomaster 5000/5500/6500 or 7000. Those are the amps that are part of the Beosystem with same numbers, They’re often called “pizza box” because of their design. I dont know all the Beomasters some may or not have integrated RIAA preamp, I don’t know.
The 5000 is the oldest and is quite difficult to service but its a beautiful beast and sound very good. It also need a specific remote that could be a little bit too much if you dont need the whole system. The 5500 may sound a little bit duller (mine did compared to my 5000), the other I don’t know. Some have different finishes (mat silver, silver, white, blackā¦)
For the speakers, depending on the amp you choose, you may also want to look for the Beovox (passive) 3000/4500/5000 and their Beolab (active) counterpart with same numbers. They are panel speakers and their Mondrian style should match the pizza box design.
Hope this helps.
June 1, 2023 at 11:40 am #20961Hi,
Thanks a lot for the reply and helpful answer! It seems to get it ready and working, it’s going to take some bigger investment and a bit of a pain as well as a lot of clutter with the additional remote.
I’ve seen while doing various searches (and my friend has) the Beocentre 2200 which looks like it’s much more of a confined and all in one system that i might look to go for instead. Perhaps i’ll sell the 5000 onto someone who has a better understanding or room to complete it.
Thanks for your help!
