I have a question regarding my beogram 4500. I do not use this turntable with a beocentre, I have the beocentre4500 but it needs repairing. Instead, I use my beogram with other amplifiers by way of an adapter. My beogram has a built in phono amp but I find that the output is rather low. With most amps it’s just about loud enough with the volume at max. I live in a small, joined house and when listening to music via CD deck or DAC on the same amp, the volume would be too loud at 1/4 Volume. Even with my self built ecl82 valve amp which only outputs a couple of watts per channel, max volume would be too loud for my listening room most of the time (when listening to these other sources).

Is there a modification I could do to disable the onboard phono pre on the beogram in order to use a separate phono amp?

Apologies for the formatting. It looks like a quotation, the message box is cut off at the edges on my android phone browser. Really fiddly to use.

I just fixed the formatting for you. Yes it’s a bit tricky to use on phones – if I have to use a phone I tend to hold in landscape position whilst formatting.

Do you have the service manual for the BG4500? It’s available on site for Silver and Gold members. I think that people have removed or by-passed the internal pre-amp in the past and it would be worth searching the archived forums for info.
