Hello all, what are my options for replacing the spindle bearing on 4002 type 5513 . The platter seems to have to much side to side movement . The tt does play and I have recapped it .Thanks , James

        Hi James, and welcome ?

This is absolutely normal for that bearing. It is a self-centering bearing with only one sintered ring at the top. It has a special thrust pad at the bottom.

Ok thanks , I don’t see the thrust pad . The spindle is convex and inside the main bearing is concave , there should also be a thrust pad ?

            There is always one.

Do you know what the pad looks like, got a picture? The way the spindle fits into the bottom of the bearing on my 4002 seems to center it.

I was wrong about the inside of the main bearing. I got a better look, and it is flat with a small deep hole in the center. This small hole might center the spindle. I have not found any mention of the thrust pad yet. The spindle needs something to center it, or it will rub on the single sintered ring. Maybe the little hole?

I believe the confusion is due to the 4002 having two different bearings. The earlier 5503 types had the platter from the 4000 which had a ball and thrust pad. Yours is the later one which had a lighter but larger black subplatter and only used a centered point. In any case, there does not appear to be anything missing.

Thanks Mark that explains it. I am working my way through Beolovers restored thread. I have yet to hear back from him on this.

                      Hi

Regarding to the confusion about the bearing maybe this gives a bit more light:

Christian, I’m afraid the 8002 had a different bearing yet again as it was a different drive system.

There is a special thrust pad with a hole and the spindle sits slightly over it. Late Beogram 4000´s had the same kind of bearing, only larger (12 mm if memory serves).

I’ve got two 4002 (not 4000’s) and I can’t see what the thrust pads are.

I want to add that one of the BG has a little play in the platter that do not impact playing records.

Can somebody say something relevant about these thrust pads that will not add more haze to the question?

matador read post#5604., My5513 type 4002 does not use the thrust pad and the “play” in the platter is normal. Its a self centering spindle. During my pre-restore inspection I notice that the zero force balancing screw is loose , just as beolover said it would be .
