I’m a first time poster here. My Beogram 1800 has worked fine up to yesterday. When I hit play it starts turning, the arm moves to the starting position and then the record stops spinning. The arm sits in its position at the start of the record. If I give the platter a slight spin with my finger, it clicks and starts spinning and then works normally. Any advice on what could cause this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Can you remove the platter and check whether the spinning is stopped by the motor spindle stopping or the belt slipping on the pulley because the platter is hung up?
With the platter off it works properly. The arm goes to the 45 position. I put the platter back on and tried to play a 45. It slows to a crawl and then either stops or picks up speed and works normally. It seems like the weight of the platter is too much for the motor to turn?
If it is of Type 58xx I would replace the belt and clean the pulley. If the 54xx you also have an idler wheel to clean. You can find the proper replacement parts at Beoparts-shop.com.
