BeoGram 4000C

BeoGram 4000C

BeoGram 4000C

The original iconic turntable which set the standard for all record players that came after – reimagined for contemporary use.

We wanted to revisit the Beogram turntables to celebrate how there are unchanging values which make a product beautiful and unique. Values that have held true at Bang & Olufsen since 1925. Now, with the Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Editions, we meticulously source and restore original units. These editions honour our rich heritage, celebrating timeless values while adapting to the modern sound systems. The Beogram 4000c Recreated Limited Editions is the first instance of Bang & Olufsen’s Classics Initiative: in the near future we will be revisiting more of our most iconic products, reimagining them for now and coming decades.

STEP 1

Disassembly and inspection

The Beogram 4000 series reimagining process begins by bringing the selected turntables back home to Struer, Denmark – the same facilities where they were created. Every Beogram is disassembled manually then thoroughly inspected to assess each unit’s needs.

STEP 2

Refurbishment and restoration

Every single component of each Beogram is painstakingly cleaned. New parts are added – from the smallest screw and ball bearing to the drive belt – ensuring perfect functionality. Once this process is complete, each Beogram is individually tested then fine-tuned until we know it will achieve the precision performance we demand from all of our products.

STEP 3

Recreation and upgrade

We then create new design elements – from the hand-crafted wooden frame to an updated finish on the minimalistic and intuitive control pad – to enhance the original beauty of the Beogram. Our final step is to upgrade the technology – installing a preamplifier and adding a new pickup cartridge – to make the Beogram easily integrate with contemporary home speaker setups.

Innovative looks, innovative technology

The innovative tangential tonearm was striking in its day, and part of the reason the original Beogram was an instant classic. But it wasn’t for looks. The way the tonearm was built made it able to play vinyl at an angle that was as close as possible to the way the record was cut. This made it truthful to the original recording, staying honest to the artist’s intentions.

Jacob Jensen

When Jacob Jensen designed the Beogram 4000 Series turntable in 1972, he was looking to the future of audio design. His aim was to completely rethink the turntable to achieve a better-performing product that would stand the test of time. ‘No-one should care about how bridges are built – the point is to find out how to get to the other side in the best possible way,’ he explained. The collaboration between Bang & Olufsen and designer Jacob Jensen is legendary, and set one of the most influential standards for product design.

BeoVox 1

BeoVox 1

BeoVox 1

BeoVox 1 provides an elegant and discrete in-wall or in-ceiling two-way passive loudspeaker solution with excellent sound performance and numerous placement options in one solution.

In the construction are selected high-quality loudspeaker units (one 16.5 cm woofer and one 2.5 cm tweeter) and applied a carefully designed cross-over network to improve its acoustic performance so the sound dispersion in the treble area is optimised.

Most in-wall loudspeakers are either round or square, but Bang & Olufsen has chosen the elegant, discrete, oval design for BeoVox 1 applying typical Bang & Olufsen craftsmanship. It will be available with either a white or black grille but at launch only the white version is available to order.

Many loudspeakers designed for installation in a wet environment may show an IP rating. This applies to products which can be dangerous to touch when water is in the vicinity because it may splash through the product surface and into the electronics. However, BeoVox1 is a product which is not directly connected to mains electricity so it may be installed directly over a bath or in a wet environment without the need to quote an IP rating.

BeoVox 2

BeoVox 2

The Beovox 2 is a passive loud speaker designed for in wall or in ceiling mounting. An unusual feature is the ability to turn the speaker to focus the sound in a particular direction. This is designed to be done at the time of installation and once directed , the speaker is fixed in this position.

There are two models, the 2.1 which has a 3/4″ tweeter and 3″ midrange/woofer and the larger 2.2 which has the same tweeter but boats a 5″ midrange/woofer. This allows the reproduction of deeper notes to be achieved.

The 2.1 is 18cm in diameter whereas the 2.2 is 23cm.

BeoVox 1001

BeoVox 1001

The Beovox 1001 was a very similar loudspeaker to the Beovox 1200 (Beosystem 1200 version), but to match the new black finish of the Beomaster 1001 the metal grille was made black.

Sadly, the designers did not take the opportunity to fit a dome tweeter (as fitted to every other Beovox loudspeaker of the period), so the original (and outmoded) 2.5” cone type remained. As the Beomaster 1001 offered the facility of Ambiophonic stereo, 4 Beovox 1001s could be connected, and the model was also suggested for use with the Beogram 1500-1 record player.

BeoVox 5700

BeoVox 5700

Beovox 5700 high fidelity loudspeaker was of studio monitor quality with minimum distortion and maximum power handling capacity.

The loudspeaker was designed to handle 60 watts RMS or 100 watts music power with a distortion of less than 1% over the entire frequency range of 25-20,000 Hz. In order to produce these qualities, Beovox 5700 was fitted with a 25cm ABR (Auxiliary Bass Radiator) unit and a 25cm bass unit which together produced a clear powerful bass reproduction. Its mid-range dome was 5,5cm in diameter and its dome tweeter was 2cm. Dispersion was 160 degrees.

Trumpet stand

Owing to its size, Beovox 5700 could be preferably used as floor-standing speakers. For this reason Bang & Olufsen designed the trumpet stand, type 8906007. This stand had a top on which the loudspeaker could be placed, not only elegantly, but also practically so that a good sound dispersion could be achieved.

Beovox 5700 could be used with Beosystem 4000, an uncompromising stereo system, top of its range in the mid-1970s.
